Oh, now I am highly impressed...... very few people even know of the GCS let alone listen to them.

If you are one of the folks who have never heard the GCS..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te0SGuFo_hI

enjoy.

Hi Charlie,

What a very nice song!
The gate works very nice, because I don't hear any tape hiss.
The harmonica was very well chosen. I've tried the Audio Chord Wizard a couple of times, but it doesn't really work that good for me.
You sure know how to use it!

Regards,
Rob

Hi Mario. Thanks for taking a listen. I was very pleased with the RealBand gate plug in getting the hiss off the tape. I use gates quite a bit due to low level environment noise. I have actually recorded nice tracks out on my deck in a fair breeze plus the natural birds, crickets and squirrels and easily captured a usable track.

Several others have also mentioned that midi may be a better choice for adding additional instruments. I recently purchased an Alesis 49 key midi controller but have not taken it out of the box and experimented with it yet. It's raining here all this week so being captive inside, may play with it some in the next few days. Prior to BiaB 2014 I used midi based styles from a Yamaha PSR-910 workstation keyboard. It had a 16 track midi recorder and I created backing tracks literally one track at a time and many times was able to modify an existing style as a starting point. It was rather tedious because I cannot actually play the piano. I have a picture book of piano chords and looked up each chord and practiced it to the point I could play a portion of my song without error and built my songs that way. Needless to say, I abandoned midi for real tracks with my purchase of BiaB. I am finding out some of the limitations of real tracks and also been playing with some of the abundance of midi styles in BiaB recently, thus the purchase of the midi controller.

I have imported these tracks into my Studio One DAW tonight and will try to bring out the vocals a bit and balance the stereo tracks and lower the harmonica in the total mix.

I appreciate your kind offer to help with midi and may have a few questions once I hook up the controller and work with a few songs using midi.

Hi Al and Di. These tapes with Harold were also recorded on an Akai r2r from the late 70's. I bought it from a guy in the Air Force stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB. It may have come from Japan too. You probably deserved a lot more than a r2r for your time in Vietnam.

I also recorded with a Teac 3340s 4 track. I had one here at home on loan from my brother and our band had one in our studio.

I still have a Sears stereo r2r that works I got in 1968.

Thanks for listening

Charlie

Hi Rob. I was very pleased with the gate that comes with RealBand. Gates are very useful to eliminate low level background noise, ac buzz, guitar amp buzz, coughs, chair squeaks and such. That it is included free with RealBand makes it even better. It is quite easy to use as well.

I love the Audio Chord Wizard and if I can ever assist you with it in any way just give me a shout.

The ACW can be quirky but is manageable with practice. I usually choose to add silence to the first measure when prompted by a pop up to make a choice on how to handle the first measure not being properly calculated by the ACW scan. I also use the ACW within RealBand rather than the one in BiaB. I then save the RB file and open that in BiaB. Nearly every measure in BiaB chord chart will circled in red indicating the individual bar settings have been changed due to the tempo matching.

I download about 30 seconds of songs from YouTube that I knew the chords of and practiced with these short files to play with the different settings and choices to see how changing from the default settings affected the accuracy of the ACW. I have also used my own BiaB created songs to practice to help figure the best calibration settings against a BiaB song that I knew all of the parameters.

I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I appreciate your kind words.

Charlie

Charlie,

Enjoyed listening. Felt like I was there in the living room taking it all in. Harold sure knew his way around that steel, he's got some wonderful licks in there.

I appreciate you taking time to listen Josie. Glad you enjoyed the song. Harold and I had a great time jamming. We also completed covers that night on a few country classics.

Harold could have helped everyone out if he were still with us by making some killer steel guitar user tracks don't you think?

Sweet track!! Your brother rocked-"If there's a rock and roll heaven, I bet they have a hell of a band". Harmonica worked very well. The lead vocal is a bit buried. I wonder if you could remove it and redo it, or if it is still in track form, you could turn it up a bit. Nice tune!! Take care. Greg

Hi Greg, thanks for listening and commenting. This has been a fun exercise working with various features of BiaB and with a really old recording. Not with out deficiencies, but I have received some good suggestions and advice on making the production better and getting improved levels and mix from the original tape recording. Hoping I will be able to post a re-mix of much better quality soon.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
