I have given up with Android tablets as music applications are scarce. iPad isn't too bad and I have many apps which I use at different times.

So...I just got finished messing around with a new Windows 8.1 tablet. It's an Acer Aspire Switch 10 with an Atom quad-core processor. Being Windows if you have programs that will run on a desktop machine (and do not need too much processor power) it will run on this tablet.

I installed Band-In-A-Box and Realband on it (running from the hard drive - no sense in gobbling up the 64Gb Memory) and... it runs like a dream. Just like running on a desktop but with a touch screen.

The Acer does have a keyboard with a full sized USB socket on it and this is detachable. If you use the micro usb socket on the tablet you can connect a usb hub and then connect a hard drive, sound interface and usb midi keyboard if you wish. Better make that a powered hub though or the tablets battery will not last too long.

How good this will be live I have yet to see but after a couple of hours here at home it has run flawlessly.

BTW one on the nice things about a Windows powered tablet is the absolute ease of connecting up external peripherals such as printers, scanners etc.

That's good news, thanks.

I remember using BIAB on a netbook with an Atom processor, and I couldn't use more than one RealTrack. Have you tried a song with multiple RealTracks? Did you have to throttle back the BIAB RealTrack settings?

BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors

I got a Surface Pro 3 with a Core i5. Runs BIAB as well / better than my i7 desktop.

Tinkering with an ASUS Transformer here, W8.1. I've run RB with a dozen audio tracks or so on it as described in the original post. Same USB3 port on docked keyboard type setup. With charger plugged in the external drive didn't seem to be much of a drain. <grin>
I think next I'll try installing RB to a 64 gig sd card and see how it runs from there.

The cursor lags a bit, but it works.
Recording to it would be a different question. I wouldn't want to battle that. Not recording audio anyway. It's a basic model; only 2 gig RAM, 32bit OS and Atom processor.

I'd bet the Surface 3 could record a couple audio tracks, and maybe the Switch could too. It'd be interesting to know.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Matt

I didn't have to scale back anything. Running BIAB as it installed and played back a lot of Realtrack demos - which are basically realtracks on every track.

The switch is obviously a step up from the older Atoms.

I'll try doing some recording to Realband using my Alesis iO2 interface.

The Surface Pro3 can run anything my desktop can. It's a Core I5 with 8GB of DDR3 and an SSD disk. If I'd had more bread, I'd have gone for an I7, but so far, no problems with Real Tracks and audio recording. It took some futzing with LoopBe and ASIO ) but so did my desktop.)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
