Here's a simple little folk song inspired by a recurring dream over the years. Don't ask... LOL! smile

Bob...

Cool lyric. So very interesting.

I always like these type instruments for your stuff (thought the 12-string could come up a little in the mix).

But... there is a piano RT modeled after Joni's style - was kind of hoping that you had use it... (don't recall what it is at the moment).

And, I do have to admit... HUGE Joni fan. I think that crush goes back to 1972...

Good stuff...

Floyd,

Thanks very much. You have a very good ear - agree on the 12-string - I just brought it up a bit and uploaded the new mix.

I'm not familiar with that piano RT - will have to check it out.

Cool tune!! I am a huge fan of Joni-she is absolutely one of the most brilliant people I have ever been aware of. Like the reference to BLUE (a great record). This is a really well done track. If I were you I might tune the BG vocals a bit. With the lead, your voice has such a cool vibe that I don't feel it's an issue (kind of like Neil Young) but BGs should be a bit more precise I believe. Really great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Bob,

I read your post without my glasses on, I am short sighted/ myopic, and I misread the 1st line of the song before I pressed play. And I thought who is John Mitchell?? Pressed play and all was OK, phew!!

That was good, the rhythm sounded a bit like a version of Yellow Taxi I once heard.

Good to hear you're bsck!

Alyn
ps
floyd, I would like to know that piano RT also, altho I believe there is a Joni mitchell midi style.

Bob,

awesome song! I must have heard the version after you raised the level of the 12 string... sounded perfect to me!

I'd kinda like to hear a version of this song with just your voice, but no harmony. I think your voice stands on its own on this song, and the harmony doesn't add anything that isn't already there. The fact that your voice is so unique is a real advantage from a singer-songwriter perspective, and I think you should play to that strength.

If you want to add something in the background, instead of using a vocal harmony that directly competes with the primary vocal, pads or strings are a good way to approximate the human voice without competing with it.

Especially given the fact that your songs tend to be romantic, the strings would be an excellent fit with the genre, and you would be freeing up your vocal in the mix.

Bob, Like many of us, I also was in love with Joni. Brought back some great memories. Over the years I have come to appreciate the uniqueness of your voice. There is an intangible quality that adds a lot to the singer-songwriter vibe that you always create. Good lyrics and the right real tracks add up to another winner. I really enjoyed it a lot. Tom

@Bob & @Alyn...

811:Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment Pop Vancouver Ev 100

Listen to the demo for it - sounds like something off Blue.
Hearing it always make me want to write a Joni-song...
I assume that "Vancouver" is hinting at it?

We really enjoyed that and it
brought back many memories.

I wish I'd visited that area during
my one quick trip to LA in 1968.

Great job capturing the feel.

Pat,

Thanks. Very thoughtful feedback - much appreciated. I actually cut it a couple of different ways, but in the end settled on this version.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
