Because Apple Quicktime player insists on changing all my file association to default to itself, I really dislike it....so I delete it.

Yet for some reason, using the new video feature of 2015 BIAB / RB I get a yellow warning box saying that, you guessed it, Quicktime is not installed or is missing some settings. I can't get it to work with any other MP4 player.

Is there a way to use some other MP4 player other than Quicktime or is this hard coded in BIAB / RB?

Jeff

I use Gom player, I really like it, it also has an AB repeat function which I find really helps with my old brain

Interesting...but what happens when you try to use the open video function in BIAB or RB i.e. save an MP4 video to your hard drive, open BIAB or RB, then open the video using the BIAB /RB built in video window function.

If I use anything other than Quicktime, I get an error that Quicktime is either not installed or needs to be further configured to open the video.

Seems no other application will work in BIAB or RB...I've tried several, setting all available associations to that application. Only Quicktime works correctly. Makes me think its hard coded in.

I just checked Jeff, In my system Windows Media Player opens. I have GOM set as my default player. I don't have Quicktime on my system. I don't use the video features of BIAB at all really.

Here, when using media player, as described above, I can render the file as mp4, but when I try to open it it does not appear in the open dialog box, despite being an MP4

Thanks Z, checked out GOM...that is interesting. Thanks for the tip.

I still must have something set wrong, in file associations perhaps, seems if I don't have QuickTime installed the video function inside BIAB / RB that's used to play saved videos doesn't work....even with GOM, VLC, MPC-HC, Win Media Player and a few other players.

Hate to admit it, I'm just going to have to learn to put up with QuickTime when using videos inside of BIAB...arrrgh! Do appreciate your insight though.

I have Quicktime installed and never actively use it. It is just there for the occasional reason that some software requires it. Mostly it is invoked by some web pages.

Other than that: I have all the file types set for other software.

Putting up with Quicktime AND putting up with BIAB, that either brave, very competent or foolhardy, for me it would be the latter.....

I feel your pain Z, I'm starting to feel the same. Have continued to play with it, but it seems, that at least for the video functions within BIAB / RB, Quicktime is hard-wired.

Would really hate to give up this function as its pretty handy to download and save a YouTube video using KeepVid.com and later to open it from within BIAB /RB and extract the audio into the ACW.

Really do hate the way that Quicktime changes all my audio and video associations and further seems to slow the computer overall. There's got to be a way around this, my foolhardiness won't last much longer.

Quicktime might be slow downer, I don't know and I haven't measured performance with and without Quicktime.

But: Quicktime does not interfere with my settings. At the initial installation I've told Quicktime not to take over any type of file to be opened with Quicktime. That was years ago, in the case of this computer it was August 2011. Quicktime never opens except a program like BIAB or a website requires this particular software to be used.

As I said before, it doesn't do anything -- except issuing an occasional request to get updated.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
