Hi All, Here's another new one. A simple slice of ordinary life… This is called Morning In America. All BIAB RTs - mixed and recorded in GarageBand. Thanks for listening. Bob

Bob, would you list the RT you used? I am intrigued by the wah guitar and may want to experiment with it
Very easy to listen-to song, with your signature singer-songwriter-poet style. You often get compared to Bob Dylan, but this one kinda reminded me of Paul Simon.
I noticed this time your rhyming scheme varied from verse to verse. For example, in verse one lines 1 & 3 and 2 & 5 rhymed. In the second verse lines 2 & 5 rhymed, in the 3rd verse lines 1 & 3 rhyme. Interesting.
You could be rich today if you lived in San Francisco in 1964 and had your current batch of songs already recorded.

Pat, That's very nice of you to say. Thanks. That particular RT is, Guitar, Electric, Soloist Dire Ev 140. I did quite a bit of editing on it and then ran it through a "talk filter" in GarageBand. Glad you enjoyed. Bob

Bob,
I really like the write.
Not wild about the guitar. An interesting sound - I just thought it did not fit the song (just an opinion) I kept thinking a resonator guitar RT would have been a good fit.
But... I really like the song....

Hey Floyd,
Thanks so much. I'm kind of on the fence myself with the guitar - I may just switch it out and try a resonator.

Hi Bob,
We like the song. At first listen we were quite curious which RT the electric guitar would be. But then we read about the editing of the track in GarageBand. This is a very nice idea!

Hey Bob, nice tune, interesting wah effect. Agree with Pat, it has a Paul Simon vibe to it. Thanks

I really like this song and the write. Interesting guitar sound. It is a good contrast to the rest of the song and probably would'd grab a lot of listeners in the beginning because no one is really looking for contrast. After 3-4 listens, I don't think the song would sound right without the 'wah'. It is completely unique so it will be hard to find a suitable replacement once familiarity has sunken in.

Charlie, Thanks very much. I was originally envisioning a stand-alone electric lead with a bit of a twist for the acoustic arrangement - kind of a throwback to the late 60s / early 70s. it's always a bit subjective in terms of the instrumentation. Glad you enjoyed it. Bob

That is one interesting effect on the guitar. I use Logic Pro X and it probably has that effect being an Apple product.
I can hear a dobro as mentioned....but if I listen a few more times (which I will as I downloaded it) I can see getting completely used to the "talking guitar."
All that aside this is a wonderful write. You are the forum Americana Poet Laureate. This song is packed with cool lines. No filler just good stuff.
Somebody mentioned Simon and I can feel that also.
Yep, we like it.

Very nice song and production. I wish I had enough confidence to present such a simple performance, I tend to hide behind the overdubs.

Janice & Bud,
Thanks - much appreciated. Yes, if you have Logic Pro X, then you probably have the effect - it's called "Talking Filter". Once selected, you can tweak until you get the desired sound.

Before you switch the guitar out to a dobro/resonator.....
consider an accordion. a squeeze box.... that would move it away from country folk into more of an Americana style which I think this song really is.
A harmonica with tasty fills would also work.... just don't use either the harmonica or the accordion all the way through..... bring it in somewhere after the first verse. Fills and tasty things only....
Another thought is mandolin fills..... sparsely located. Again, you don't want to venture too far into the folk country bluegrass area....
Personally, I think a nice mix of sparse mando and accordion keeps it squarely in the Americana genre/style.

Herb, Thanks. I never thought about an accordion - I really like that idea and may experiment a bit with it. Bob

I decided to try the accordian - thanks to Herb. I think it lends itself better than the electric guitar layer - if interested, please check it out. Bob

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
