I don't know where you're going with this riff, but you might try starting with some Hard Rock styles, and auditioning them. Once you find a style you like, then you can add an organ, or other fill instruments. I guessed at the tempo - 135? Wow! I am honestly overwhelmed by the forums willingness to help! Seriously, thank you! The tempo is actually 128...135 is a pretty good guess by just a quick listen! Now, believe it or not, this is...I'm not sure what to ever call it..."new" or "modern" country. Sometimes I feel it's pop rock with a banjo! The song itself it being pitched to a specific artist, so we are going that route of the artists general sound. Believe me, I hear that rock you all are hearing too! My how "country" has changed! Just had an idea for another song!

So here is what I came up with for now. It's in BIAB, next step is to go to real tracks, then to a DAW to mix and arrange further. The chord progression is very repetitive but that was one of the things I was told was wanted/needed. That being said, I am sending this over for him to add his own riffs to. Song Structure

What happened to the "riff". Sounds link it may have landed on the cutting room floor.

I guess, my feeling at this point was, I was spending WAY more time trying to work around a riff that could be changed easily...at least I would think it could. I have been responsible for all of the rest of the production, arranging, lyric writing, melody writing...right down to finding the right singer for the project. So, to ask someone to change the short riff they came up with, I don't feel is asking too much. It's not like I didn't try it with the riff FIRST...and for a while. thanks again for any insights! I can't even tell you how helpful it is to be able to ask people who really know what they are doing! THANK YOU

My how "country" has changed! Just had an idea for another song! Hey... I agree country as they sell it in Nashville isn't country as I grew up listening to and playing in the clubs..... BUT....all that aside.... I use a ROCK style on almost every song I write and record. This song for example.... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12024980 is a basic rock style. The rock styles work so well in country these days. You can always add the extra instruments you need for that country sound.....fiddle, mando, dobro, steel,,,,

That's great advice! I appreciate it. Also, a very cool song. The girl singing has a nice tone to her as well! Thanks for the heads up I see you had some pretty good chart movement with that. How does that happen? As in, did you do anything to make people aware of the song?

The actual wav file was posted earlier in this thread by HTL. However, over the course of discussion we did chat about reproducing the lick in BIAB. So, for the sake of having fun, here it is. The Lick Lives If someone can improve on it... lets hear it. Just realized I did not "freeze" the track, so you if you hear figerpicker over the lick you will know why...

I just put it out there and the charts position thing either happens from people listening or it doesn't. Sound click tracks the full plays from each computer that plays the song and the more folks that listen, the higher in the charts it goes. The point of posting that link to the song was to show you that a rock style can be used quite effectively to give you a country song. I don't often use country styles for country songs that I write.

That HAD to take a lot of work! I have to be honest, I didn't even know what a lot of the chords you used for the riff were/are. Crazy! Now, those guitars in the verse and chorus sound VERY ZZ top to me. I like those a lot. I was actually thinking the other day about trying to find a sound like that and making a song. NOW, I have them! thank so much for all of the efforts!

I am the WORST at only commenting on one part of a post, even though I'm thinking MUCH more. First, thank you for the explanation of the position. Second, I did know that's why you posted the link in the first place. I just didn't comment on it. Duh on my part! I agree that sound works well in, what we will loosely call country. Anyone on board for the phrase "banjo rock?"

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
