Hello, I will soon change my keyboard. I'm hesitating between a Korg Kronos 2 and a Yamaha Tyros 5. I probably will choose the Tyros. For many reasons, including ... the rear panel which is a must! Also reliability (maybe better than Korg), easiest to use (alone, like with BIAB) or in a band and lot of details. For such machines, you don't find bad things. My question: what will be the "relation" of BIAB and the Tyros? I have BIAB since the Atari version and, of course, I did lot of personal things with it. What can I import in the Tyros and how (I know that using midi files will be OK), but, what about MIDI SuperTracks, styles, songs ... And, of course, the reverse process: how to drive the Tyros from BIAB (or RelBand)? Thanks for your help. François
This should help you get started and this gentleman has several other video's up on YouTube that will likely address all of questions since he uses the Tyros in his demonstrations.
I used Biab with a Tyros for a few years. You will need a patch map, or use the XG one provided with Biab.
I would make my backing tracks in Biab and export as a midi file. Then I would import the midi file into the software that converted Mega Voices from the midi instruments that matched, forgot the name of it now, but it would add the data needed for the realistic strums, thumps, slaps etc that you get from a Mega Voice.
Once the Mega Voices were converted, I would import into the Tyros and then use it's onboard mixer to add effects and mix the channel volumes to a final file and save.
Or,
With the Tyros 5, you could import an MP3 of a final mix you've created with Biab/RB to play along with, record etc on the 5.
Well, when using a MIDI file, like the kind that BIAB generates, it's all about the voices that you have available. The TYROS 5 voices will absolutely blow you away.
My wife recently bought me a Tyros 5, and I've been extremely impressed with the MEGA and the Super Articulation Voices. They just sound so real.
I think it's a bit too simplistic to say that that the only way to use the Tyros with PG Music products. Recording the Tyros back into a DAW is going to give you lots of opportunities to slice and dice the Tyros's output and have it play along with real tracks, real drums, loops, and other things available to you.
I strongly recommend the 76 key version over the 61 key.
No, the Tyros will also playback the Biab parts in real time. You will need a patchmap in Biab in order to load the Cool, Live, Sweet voices in real time though.
I used the Tyros prior to the RealTracks and it made Biab sound like a whole new program when used with the amazing voices that came on a Tyros.
You can set up Biab with the conductor feature for live gigs as well with the Tyros.
The easiest way to record (audio capture from) a midi file was to export from Biab and then set up on the Tyros to record into my digital recorder, back then. You can now record directly to wave/wma/mp3 etc on the newer Tyros'.
I didn't have any Super Articulation voices on the Tyros 1, so I imagine yu can set them up via patchmap etc.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
