I am in the middle of putting together a latin inspired album of covers and original tunes. A while ago I posted my first latin track So In Love. Next up we have Polly!

This track was one of the first tracks I wrote and it is a part me part band in a box melodist track. Anyway I have given it a reboot and as it was written for my wife and its exactly a year ago tomorrow that she cam out of hospital after her stroke I thought it was a great time to air it, there is still a little tweak here and there to do to the mix but I wanted to get it out today.

It was written in BIAB, uses all real tracks as well as Logic drummer, and some congo loops. I really wanted the drums to stand proud and to have an almost tribal feel, so there are Real drums, logic drummer and midi drums layered and two different congo loops layered.

Soprano sax played on my Yamaha WX7 wind controller.

Hope you enjoy

Polly

Thanks
Adrian

Nicely done, I enjoyed this - in fact something about the music, the story of your wife coming out of the hospital after a stroke, the album picture of the couple dancing, and the name Polly inspired my to write words, that I will now have to fit into a song. A sad love song about a husband who left the house without saying "goodbye, I love you" to his wife, and then received a call that his wife was in the hospital in a coma after a stroke. Sitting beside the bed talking to his wife, asking her to come back and saying he won't forget to say the words again. I literally had 4 verses, and chorus complete within 2 listens. I may PM you a version recorded against your music (although unfortunately it does not quite fit).

Adrian,

This composition is such a beautiful piece of music. There are some incredibly haunting melodic intervals and harmonic sequences. I drifted away into another world as I listened. Really lovely.

I hope that all is well with you and your wife,
Noel

Music is very sweet, as is the story!! I think some reverb on the sax, and a less mechanical sounding drum track would make it even better. Nicely done!! Take care. Greg

Thanks for the listens an comments. This track was written a while ago and it was written when myself and my wife were going through a bad patch. Which resulted in us splitting up.

Map Collector your lyrics are spot on as myself and my wife did split up and I wasent there when she had her stroke so I hadn't told her I loved her and it's something I live with daily. Please do send me a copy and if a version of the song with sax would be easier to fit the lyrics too please let me know.

Greg I hear you on the reverb there is a slice of it on the sax but a little more won't hurt :-) I willook at the drums as I wanted a solid beat maybe the midi drum layer in the 3 layers is making it a little stiff

Thanks all
Adrian

Very nice composition and arrangement. You've done a really good job on the mix as well. Enjoyed it from start to finish.

Very much enjoyed listening to this piece. To me this song is as much smooth jazz as latin. Either way, it's nice.

Totally agree Jim, it has both a smooth jazz and a latin vibe so I think I will say its Smooth Latin Jazz smile

Richmac, Janice and Bud thanks for the listens and nice comments.

Out of all the songs I have produced Polly has always been the one that has grab people's attention which was why I chose it to have a facelift for this album project.

It was originally just flute and two acoustic guitars. But I always envisaged it with a pronouced rhythm track which is why I layered so many drum tracks and Conga loops.

Hi Adrian, very nice indeed. Agree that the sax could use a little room reverb, and maybe work somewhat on the abrupt end. I would like to know what guitar RT's you used.
Keep up the good work.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
