Haven't been very active lately, for various reasons. (We've been busy on the 90 dB 2015 Dive Bar World Tour, and preparing for the 90 dB 2016 Hospice World Tour) Hearing a lot of great stuff in the User Showcase. Thought I'd contribute a little song.

I used RT's almost everything, but I've lost the original .sgu file, so I don't know which ones. confused I love this program!

Regards,

Bob

Cold Cold World

©2015 Robert Randall Burke/BMI

City of Angels
She's livin' in her car
But this time next year
She's gonna be a star.
She's been waitin' tables
In some old Venice bar
She starts to think
She'll never get that far.

The old man in the corner
Has been where she is now
He'd like to give her comfort
But he just don't know how.

Oh, girl
It's a cold cold world
Yeah yeah yeah
It's a cold cold world
You put your best foot forward
Keep your nose to the stone
Give it everything you got
But the harder you try
The harder you fall
And baby, you'll fall a lot
Oh, girl
It's a cold cold cold world.

All along the Boulevard
The street of broken dreams
Where nothing is as golden as it seems
A thousand nameless people
Do a thousand closing scenes
That'll never play
On a thousand silver screens.

The old man on the corner
Has been where she is now
He'd like to give her comfort
But he just don't know how...so he says....

Oh, girl...
It's a cold cold world
Yeah yeah yeah
It's a cold cold world
You put your best foot forward
Keep your nose to the stone
Give it everything you got
But the harder you try
The harder you fall
And baby, you'll fall a lot
Oh, girl
It's a cold cold cold................ world.

"A thousand nameless people

That'll never play
On a thousand silver screens."

Love that, Robert.

The whole lyric, actually... solid start to finish.

The build of instruments is terrific. Rocking! by the end... and super catchy. (I did want that ending guitar solo louder!!)..

A little Bruce, a little Billy, a bunch o' Bob...

I'm thinkin' I75 may have found their opening act...

Great listen. And it gets better with each one... Real LOUD.

Bob,

As floyd says
Quote:
Great listen. And it gets better with each one... Real LOUD.
So I played it loud with my back door open and got the cockerel and geese in the house behind me squawking, so the birds love it! (bird is British slang for women!)

great song and again as floyd I wanted the solo LOUDER

Anyway back for another listen

I always look forward to your posts and enjoy your songs. You were the first artist who caught my attention when I first started listening here on the forum. You're still one of my favorites. Good write, performance and production.

There's no mistaking your signature sound. Reverb dialed in!

I echo the things Floyd had to say. I too wanted the music up a bit, closer to the vocals and drums. Are those RDs? They're righteous.

Southern CA throughout. Solid write and a good story.

I love new and creative takes on old themes. I admire a
writer who can take a theme like this and breathe a ton
of new life into it. That is one clever, inventive and engaging
lyric.

That'd be enough for me to like the song but then comes
the vocal, the arrangement and the production that is
outstanding.

I don't want to define Americana but IMO this sits in the midddle
of that spectrum.

Classy!

Thanks Scott. I'm not happy with the mix either, but got tired of beating it to death, so I had to stop somewhere! grin

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
