This appeared in the "Letters To The Editor" in our local newspaper.
This is for those of my older generation who do not really comprehend why Facebook exists. Presently I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles. Therefore, every day I go down the street and tell the passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel, what I have done the night before, and what I will do tomorrow night.
Then I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and me gardening and spending time in my pool. I also listen to their conversations, and I tell them I love them.
And it works. I already have three people following me: two police officers and a psychiatrist.
Cheers, Keith

Facebook exists as voluntary spyware.
They get you to fill in your profile, they get you to give them more information when you play those silly games or take those quizzes, and they log every time you click 'like'. This creates a huge file on you that is for sale to anyone who has the money - legitimate advertisers, spammers, and even identity thieves and hackers (actually crackers).
ODE TO FACEBOOK
Oh Facebook how are you today? I visit you most every day
And everything I do or say you put into my dossier
Where was I born? what was my school? Enter your job, be very cool
You even know my family and everything that's dear to me
My information's gold to you it sells to stores and spammers too
If I click "like" or I repost your clients will dig me the most
I click an ad merely to look? the ad man pulls to set the hook
It'll be in my e-mail today and web page ads, day after day
And It'll waste, my precious time and you'll receive another dime
I wouldn't mind the money you make if a commission I could take
I'd like to get twenty percent but you don't offer one red cent
So Facebook please let's make a deal just cut me in, no need to steal
I'll finish my profile if you do and we will profit, both me and you
© Bob Norton (as if anyone would want to steal this <wink/grin>)

You hit an internet nail right on the head, Notes. How many people whine and cry about "privacy" and "they track me" and then post pictures of their little baby kids all over the place? Advertising to child predators everywhere that you have kids is a wise idea? More than once have I read stories about people advertising that they are far away from home on vacation via Facebook photos and come home to find they have been robbed. If you have a first name and a last name and the smallest bit of internet skills and native intelligence, do you have any idea how much anybody sitting in their living room can find out about another person?
With a name, you can find their house if they own one on a county tax map. You can look at the county court records and find out about their past. You can deduce from their location where their kids go to school, where they likely shop for groceries, which local bar they might hang out in, etc.... Public record plus intuition can reveal a lot about anybody.
And this is all free information that can be found because that same person who complains about a web browser knowing where they browse to posts their life on Facebook. Or Twitter. Or Foursquare.
I once had someone jokingly challenge me about this. 2 days later I sent her a letter, to her home address, with all her information about the house she lived in, the court records showing that she was divorced and awarded the house, the address of the two nearest schools that her kids likely attended, and a question asking if she had ever paid off the fine from the court case she had been involved in due to a car accident.
When she tossed that gauntlet down I had never met her in person. In 2 hours I knew that much.
Refer back to my post on another such thread about handing your credit card to a waitress you don't know who takes it out of your sight for 10 minutes. Privacy? Security?
I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.
1. How much did you make in 2023? 2. Send it to us.

That's it, keep it up buddy.
Pretty soon you'll have scared off all the old fogeys from the forum and what's left will be the kids.
Oh wait...

If people would start calling Facebook voluntary spyware, it might change some of their posting habits.
And of course, they aren't the only voluntary spyware company out there, twitter, linkedin, and even google.
If it's free, you aren't the customer, you are the product.

I watched then I passed it on to everyone on my email address list.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
