The Berklee College of Music course, Introduction To Music Production, offered on Coursera is free and is now self paced. Learn about the music production process—including recording, editing, and mixing—and the tools available to you to create contemporary music on your computer. I took an earlier version of this course and it is, without a doubt, the BEST and most enlightening free music education course you will ever take. This is probably the best free resource on recording at home. It's really hard to believe that it is free.

Thanks for posting, Jim. I've been considering doing this course for some time. Circumstances have always prevented me from jumping on-board. Now that it's self-paced, it's doable.

I took the course when it was first offered three or four years ago. I didn't complete all the exercises and tests within the time limit so I did not receive a certificate but I still think it is one of the best educational experiences I've ever had. Even though the information is very basic the presentation and organization is like a glue that holds everything together so it makes sense. I can almost guarantee you will have an "aha" moment or feel the lightbulb turn on inside your head at least one time.
The outline seems to indicate some revisions have been made so I'm sure the course is even better now than it was when I took it.

I noticed the change too Jim. I had already completed Music Production and Music Theory. I'm lined up for Songwriting before I complete the certificate.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
