Sorry for starting a new thread, the other was getting too confusing. Here is what I hope is the final mix of Between the Lines. It has BB drums, bass, and 12 string guitar. Overdubs include more 12 string guitar, Stratocaster, tamborine and vocals. Please be critical of the mix, let me know if I need to do it again.

Nice and catchy - I especially like the harmony. Straight forward 1960's feeling tune.

Seems a bit bass heavy to me, and the vocals are a touch subdued. But I think there are better ears on the forum than mine.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Noted, I remixed this morning with less bottom and more vocals. I felt the same.

The mix sounds fine on my KRK's. And typically for me that means a mix will sound good on any other system I play it on.
Like David mentioned it has an authentic mid 60's vibe. Nice hook too.

Enjoyed it.

Yep... straight up a 60's feel.

Reminded me of the band the Byrds and a few others from that time. Back then, this could have been a hit. It has that harmony going on that was very popular at the time.

A nice blast from the past.

You may or may not be aware that some publishers and especially music libraries look for "New old songs" from time to time. I could see this being used in a movie about the 60's time frame as underscore or source.

Nice work.

I like this version a lot better.

You nailed that 60's Byrds and Grassroots sound. Loved it.

This is a keeper.

Will,

During my first listen I had to get rid of a cold-call salesman at my door, dunno what he was trying to sell me cos I was singing the chorus in my head.

Great 60's vibe

enjoyed a lot

Well, this may not be the final mix after all, because I just bought a Rickenbacker 12 string and really have to get it on this song. I'm sure you understand.

In terms of the 60's sound, I reject the premise that that sound is dated. This is why I write songs like this, I never got enough of the Byrds, Searchers, Hollies or Badfinger. They didn't exhaust the possibilities of catchy arpeggios and jangly choruses. So I'll keep at it.

Hi Will,

Like others said, very catchy, good (backing) vocals.
And it also reminded us of the Byrds, like it did others.
"Turn, turn, turn", that kind of song.
Very nice!

I would like to learn more about publishers looking for retro material

Like has been stated, nice catchy tune. Great job on the harmonies. Again, captures the feel of the 60's genre. Like you, I still enjoy it!

Love the catchy intro, love that electric 12 (use it a lot myself), and what is not to like in the song? Catchy, clever, and just a straight up fun listen!! Great job on this, and probably your best vocal I've heard. Take care. Greg

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
