So I am wondering if the way I am thinking of doing this is the best way and or the only way to do this.
In songs there is often a half or full bar part of the intro that an instrument will start before the rest of the band kicks in.
As BIAB most times has the band all starting together on the 1 of the bar this can be a challenge.
One way I thought of doing this was have my solo instrument start the the song in BIAB and rest the remainder of the band till I want them to come in, on beat 2, 3, 4 or whatever. I have yet to try this but in my mind am thinking this would work.
Does anyone have any other ways they have comeup with doing this? If so can you share them please.
Cheers

Hi Tony try going Options - Preferences - Count In/Met and see if picking one of these will help. I play Solo guitar and on a couple of tunes I start to play half bar or 3/4 bar before my "Virtual BB Band", and I use these count ins to get me started. HTH Ian

B for Bass
D for Drums
P for Piano
G for Guitar
S for Strings
To type a rest for all instruments on a C chord type
C.
To exempt instruments, add their letters following the break. For example, typing
C.bd
will put a rest on all instruments EXCEPT the bass and drums, or to put a held chord for all instruments except the piano, type
C...p
*If you put a part marker on the next bar and bring the drums in on beat 3 of the current bar you will get a pre fill then bring the others in on the next bar or just the bass then guitar on the next bar then all on the next.

Sometimes, depending on the render.... BB will give you a lead in with the steel or the guitar.... pickup notes... usually on 3 4 of the count in measures. I assume this is what you're talking about wanting to do..... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13040458Another way to do that is to add one measure at the beginning. In measure 2, simply highlight it to blue or green and use a part marker..... Mute the instruments you want silenced for that ONE measure. Let the pickup instrument play. You can also use a DAW to do audio editing. Copy & paste as needed.

You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Thanks Solidrock, I didn't know about that. I've been using F5 to silence instruments on Realtracks for the first bar or couple of bars and just leaving eg drums for intros.

Often I create a 4 bar SGU that will regen quickly and just keep at it until I get pickup notes. If that doesn't work I sometimes comp them from somewhere else in the song. And I also have padded the sgu with an extra measure at the beginning and comped the notes from it.

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
