Carolina Shaggin'

Well, everybody's dancin'
Down on the Boulevard

Beneath palmetto trees.

Young and old together
Shaggin' away their blues
Everybody's havin' a real good time
Put on your dancin' shoes.

I'll meet you down at Sharky's
Or maybe down by the pier
Anytime past sundown
We'll be Carolina Shaggin' here

Fun tune, has a good beat and definitely would be a popular dance song. Nice one. Which sax was that for the solo?

Very authentic to this sub-genre with your chord progression, tempo and instrumentation and is current with what local talent is producing here in the Myrtle Beach area.

The lyrics are true to the vernacular the SOS (Society of Shaggers) club all up and down the eastern seaboard.

All around good song and I enjoyed my listen.

Very cool and extremely well done.
But I have a different definition of shagging which adds a new dimension to the song.
Cheers.

Great track, Bob.

Yes, it does have unfortunate connotations here, unless you're particularly extrovert.

Obviously, I can't vouch for it's authenticity, but I loved it.

Cheers, ROG.

Rob,

Yeh, shagging certainly has a different meaning over here!!
Don't remember when I first heard of the dance, all those years back, but I do remember the boys and I having a good laugh at the time!

Enjoyed the song a lot tho' grin

Well done, Robert. Good write.

Good harmonies! Fun horns. Smooth...

What about a Florida Swamp Dance song? "The Withlacoochee Waltz"...

Thanks for the listen guys, and the kind remarks. I did not mean to scandalize anyone.

The “Carolina Shag” is an innocuous dance step, and totally unrelated to the British/Australian slang use of the term.

There are even shag dancing competitions:

Hey Kevin. That was actually two saxes. The first phrase is a "RT417", the rest is "RT716". Repeated regens didn't get what I wanted in just one sax.

Hey Tommy. Thanks for the kind words. We're hoping to get some airplay on Surf Radio (Myrtle Beach) with this one. We wouldn't be able to hear it, but maybe Charlie would. grin

Bob, to make your dream come true, get your song on this local Myrtle Beach radio station and it will be shared with the entire world..... They stream it....

94.9 The Official radio station of Society of Shaggers

btw - Carolina Girl would be a good song to pitch as well IMO..

Yeah, Charlie. That's the station I'm dealing with. "The Surf".

I'm not much of a dancer grin , but I love South Carolina! We lived in the Upstate for three wonderful years. Best people in the country!

Brings back many memories of my 60's high school
days and runs down to Panama City. There sat
a big pavilion with sand on the floor and mucho shaggin'

You nailed the feel vocally, lyrically, and RT wise.

Most excellent!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
