1 part brand new Telecaster, 1 part blow the dust off the steel, 1 part finally bought some studio monitors, 1 part 23rd wedding anniversary , mixed carefully, not shaken or stirred. Should you decide to dance around the house, be advised to our limitations of liability clause. At 2:49 it’s short and sweet, just like the wife! I hope you enjoy. As always say anything that comes to mind. Tom

A Perfect Match

I am tall and she is small it don’t matter much at all

Turns out we’re pretty much alike

she eats chicken I eat fish

We've been granted every wish

And thank our lucky stars we got it right

Time and time again we hear how did you two meet

it wasn’t through Match dot com or reading someones tweet

we’ve given up we've had enough our hands are in the air

We’re a perfect match and an unlikely pair

She leans left and I lean right but rarely do we ever fight

We always just agree to disagree

i’m in a hurry everyday and she's always getting in my way

Eye to eye is something we don't see

Time and time again we hear how did you two meet

it wasn’t through Match dot com or reading someones tweet

we’ve given up we've had enough our hands are in the air

We’re a perfect match and an unlikely pair

This is a great song Tommy. You have such a professional studio sound to all of your recordings (care to share? lol). Fantastic steel, guitar solo, lyrics and vocals. I enjoyed this a lot!

Tom,

Your writing steps up one more bar with each new song. This is...perfect.

Your singing gets better with each song... you've really hit your stride there...

The steel playing is pro (perfect).

The Tele sounds outrageous!!!! Nice picking!

Those drums sound great! Your production is ...well.. Perfect.

Mix. Perfect.

I've listened a dozen times so far.. What a great hook!

WOW.

Yeah, and really really clever lyrics! Perfection...and I'm not even really much of a country fan. But, tunes like the Stones "Dead Flowers", et al, have opened my spectrum a bit, and I know good music when I hear it. This is good music.

Tom,

What a brilliant piece of writing and a really clear professional mix with great picking as I have come to expect.

A new, hot tele and a dusty, smokin' steel isn't such an unlikely pair to be found on a Tom Adams country hit... but like Mr. Tall and Mrs. Small, a perfect match.

Great song, performance and mix.

There's something about great writing that's hard to put your finger on, but this is it!! It's about something that feels so relaxed and natural and yet works so perfectly. Like a line that's drawn free hand, and makes a perfect circle. Like snowflakes falling out of the sky that join to make some perfect image. This is AWESOME!! I particularly got a kick out of it because it has so many parallels to my marriage. I'm very tall and my wife is short. I lean right and she leans left, although with us, it sometimes gets a little chippy. We've been married 30 years and it has been on balance wonderful. This, like many of Tom's recent posts is a hit, and again, much more than a hit because of humor, wit, and heart. Amazing stuff Tom!! AMAZING!! Take care. Greg

Thanks, Sonny. The real tracks sit really well into this mix of song construction loops and multitrack song files. A lot of the credit goes to how well the loops were recorded in the first place. On the mastering stage I have been recently using the waves plug-in. LinMB as the last thing after Ozone6 on the final output stereo track. Here is a link to an overview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Kql3eqcbk Thanks again, glad you liked it. Tom

Hi Tommy,

a perfect song. Everything fits.
You're right with your anticipation that
this song makes you dance around the house.
How did you do the beginning and ending of the drums? That sounds great.
Very, very enjoyable.

Eric, Thanks much and thanks for commenting on my other song. I won't reply to that one. Just let it drop off the page. But know I appreciate you coming by. Tom

Thanks Scott, I got hooked on steel back in the Seventies after seeing New Riders of the Purple Sage. You should try and find one - it would be much easier to learn these days with the net. Tom

Guenter, After creating the song in Biab, I found some song construction loops and multitrack song files that fit. The drums were what was already there in the loop. In the multitrack drum loops for each song or style, there are usually about 50 loops, intros, outros, verses, choruses, bridges, fills, so it is very easy to construct a full song with custom drums and have them in 7 piece multitrack form. But the real magic happens when you plug in the real tracks on top- they blend in seamlessly, as long as the arrangement matches the SGU. You can't beat real drums for ease of use and overall sound, but I have decided to experiment a bit with song construction loops and multitrack song files as a base and add real tracks and live instruments on top. Of course all the writing initially takes place in Biab. At this point I can't live without it! Thanks, Tom

Now that is HOT!!!

Really nice work. Love the "Tele tone" on that song. Nothing over the top but all things in their proper place and not exceeding the levels of tasty licks.... and that combination takes the entire song totally over the top in a really good way!!!!!

You are on a roll with your writing.... I love the fact that you brought this super song in at under 3 minutes with time to spare. That's a lost art in song writing. Lots of energy and a good topic.

Loved it

Forgive my ignorance but "In the multitrack drum loops for each song or style, there are usually about 50 loops, intros, outros, verses, choruses, bridges, fills, so it is very easy to construct a full song with custom drums and have them in 7 piece multitrack form."

Are these files you're referencing BIAB loops and files or are they third party product?

Does " 7 piece multitrack form." meaning each drum,hi-hat, tom occupy an individual track in RB or another DAW or a drum kit mixed to an individual stereo file on a single track in BIAB?

My understanding of loops is ... well ... a misunderstanding. frown

I must admit though that I think this song is about my wife and I. Opposites do attract and I know if both of us were to sign up for match.com no one would have put us together, yet we have been married for 48 years.

PS - all I can add is this is what country is supposed to sound like
