New to BiaB as a purchaser - just this week in fact (but aware of it since it's inception) so did lots of YouTube watching before I made the purchase. In ONE of the videos (too many for me to find it again) the guy demonstrated that you can enter a chord you forgot on a bar and (can't remember what he did - perhaps entered a special character after the chord) it shifted all the subsequent chords on for the rest of the song.

I've had this a few times and because I can't remember of find it in the help, I'm having to cut the rest of the song and past it back a bar later. But this can present other problems.

Anyway, I'm sure all you experienced guys here can do this with your eyes closed; How do I enter a chord and move all subsequent chords forward.

BTW; Off topic but; is there a section here for offering suggestions for future development? Something that is really bugging me so far is I keep accidentally and instinctively hitting TAB instead of enter as a result the cursor pops out of the chord area and into the TEMPO (took me a while to even find it and find out why I could no longer type in a chord!) Sometimes it will end up in the song title area. Wish I could just lock it in the chord area until I click with a mouse to go out of it.

Edit - Insert Bars should do it
Also for suggestions scroll down to the BiaB Wishlist Forum area

To move chords by bar or beat you can use nudge from edit menu top left biab.

To push chords by 1/8 or 1/16 type ^ or ^^ before entering chord, or another way right click on chord and choose chord settings.

Welcome to the forum!

Right, the Tab key does not work like a spreadsheet. This has been discussed, but you are always welcome to add your request in the Wishlist forum.

I am not aware of any way to enter a chord and move the rest over by a full measure. I work the way rharv suggests. But if you do find it, you will have stumped us!

Thanks MusicLover and Matt.

Yes I saw it for sure on a youtube video about a week ago. However, I think it was an earlier version maybe 2014 or 2015 as i seem to remember the guy entering the chords in a box (off the sheet) so maybe that feature went along with the box, now we can enter chords directly to the sheet.

Not to worry the "EDIT/insert bar" option will be fine and sure beats selecting all the bars to the end and control x and control v.

Thanks again everyone for the swift response.

Another way is on the Notation Chord Sheet to highlight the chords (left click mouse and drag over the chords from the first bar that you want to shift. Then, using your mouse again, right click, do a conventional Cut and then Paste the whole thing one bar on. That is the way that I tend to do it because it is quicker.

This would only move the data for the current track, not any other other tracks?

As I understood the question it was only the chords that needed to be moved. Nothing about tracks.

OK, I think I understand.
Originally, "Notation Chord Sheet" was mentioned. I think that should have just read "Chord Sheet"?
I am now guessing that it was simply referring to the Chord Sheet Window, and not the Notation Window?
(There is no "Notation Chord Sheet" window)

You know, a video can be edited. Maybe it just appears as if some command moved the chords over, but the real explanation is that they aren't showing a continuous video?

Hi
As has been said above, I find that edit/insert bars works for me if you are whole bars short .
The bars get inserted in front previous to, the bar the cursor is in.
Often when I write a song I don’t do the intro untill after .
This means the song starts on bar1
So I select bar 1 and edit/insert 4 bars my song now automatically starts at bar 5 and all bars move to the right complete with chords etc.
Normally then I would copy and paste the last 4 bars of notes from the melody track of the song, to the new intro bars
Or maybe just generate the style for the intro with or without some parts depending on what I wanted.
Or maybe a custom intro melody or solo.
Sorry if you already knew all this .
Just my thoughts on this one.
Best regards
Mike

Sorry Mike, I know the problem is solved. I just like a mystery and if there is a way to type a chord and shift the rest, I would like to know how, for the next time this comes up.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
