To use quarter note chords, just enter the chord you want on the first beat, press the comma, and enter the chord you want for the second beat. Hit enter to move to the 2nd half cell for that bar and do the same thing for beats 3 and 4.

Not sure what you mean by triplets in the "chord view window" (did you mean the "notation window"?)

Ah, the ',' has been the missing sign, thank you.
For the rest I will paint what I mean, but in the moment I am struggling with lots of installation problems I have to solve first (missing files, lots of crashes ... )

Bibsie,

What version of BIAB are you installing. In my experience, installation is usually a very straightforward process.

Regards,
Noel

just upgraded to 2016.
Now I am leaving my own thread title, I hope that is ok.
I had version 2010.5 for a long time but never used it so very often, just for exercies from time to time and now I decided to take a bit more advantage of that, so I upgraded.
I have just made a restore of a system image to start a new try.
2010.5 is still installed but in C:\Program Files (x86)\BB
So, would you recommend to deinstall the old version first and to install to c:\BB ?

What Pack did you purchase? That might make a difference to how you install.

Normally, you install over the top of an existing installation, however, x:\Program Files (x86)\bb\ is now not the preferred install location by most users (and including PGM).

Depending on the pack you purchased you may not receive new copies of all of your older files from the 2010 distribution.

confused And that is the reason why I am unsure whether to deinstall or not

I have for sure back ups of everything but I does not matter if I loose 210.5 completely.

edit: As I have read the suggestion just to move the 'bb' folder: is BB not registered in windows - so to say a 'portable installation'? Normally you can't just move an installed programm folder

Horst,

A long time ago I posted a solution on how to enter quarter note triplets in the chord spread sheet. Perhaps if you enter Tonnie in the "Search Forums" window you might still find it.

I suggested that you divide a 4/4 quarter note bar into half and make the half you need for the triplets into a 3/4 (waltz) bar (with a style that mimics your 4/4 style, e.g. brushes etc.) and the remainder into a 2/4 (swing) bar.
Then there has to be made a change in tempo for the 3/4 bar, as 3 chords should take no longer than the 2/4 bar and then return to your original tempo after the 3/4 bar, in order to not disrupt the rhythm of your song.

At he time I tested it also with real styles!

Of course also the melody and soloist notes have to be entered as a waltz or altered in duration accordingly.

Good luck!

Tonnie

There is some information stored in the registry, this includes Font data etc. A new installation will likely correct any discrepancies.

However, in general terms, the destination location is not strongly tied to Windows or the Registry, meaning that the program is 'fairly' portable.

You should be able to make a 'copy' (initially), of everything in your \Program Files (x86)\bb\ folder to x:\bb\ folder, and then after ensuring that BiaB still works (maybe not from the desktop icon though), install the upgrade using x:\bb\ folder as the destination.

Once everything is running, you could them go back and remove the redundant files in the \Program Files (x86)\bb\ folder.

My ultimate advice would be to run this past the PG Music Support team before attempting anything.

Good luck!

Oha, yeah, that's a bit crazy cool - so I need the luck.
That reminds me that BB isn't able to write most of the #chords as root, and is not accepting the german keyboardlayout that is enabled at my computer that I hoped will do now nearly six years later.

Back to my other problems: There are still lots of messages that this or that (RealTrack) file is missing. But I want to read a bit in the manual before going on to nerve smile .

what I have forgotten to tell: I have deinstalled the old version, did a registry cleaning and installed new in the suggested installation path. Two times crashing, but now it seem to work in general.

BIAB does support triplets in an even style but it is often difficult to get it to print / show correctly. It will always play the triplet, but the visual may not be right.

One of the notation options is to allow triplet resolution. If you are working in an even style, this option is OFF by default; it is ON for swing (triplet) styles.

You can change it at any point, and then change it back as needed. So enter your notes as required, up to the point you want a triplet; switch the notation option to triplet resolution, and add your triplets, and then switch it back. The playback will be correct, but the print out or screen may look strange.

The is also a way to change an individual note by changing the BEAT resolution. Check it out in the help screen.

Hi all,
just an update to let you know:
everything is fine and running cool
- after I recognized that I have to install all the packs I had purchased. After that no missing file warnings are poping up any more.
- after I have learned to run BiaB as Admin
- after I have learned not to forget to switch my (ASIO) interface on befor launching BiaB - no crashes.
-
Now the next questions appear, but I will ask seperately.
Thank you all, horst

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
