Earl, if it's covers you want do you know you can buy great pro level midi or audio backing tracks of anything you want for like 6 or 7 bucks each and less with volume discounts? You can also simply search YouTube for the names of pretty much anything and add the words backing tracks or karaoke and find tons of good stuff.
Biab is fun and all but if this is what you want why break your head over it?

Earl, First of all congratulations! There is a lot of things that need to come together to create a cover song. Are you aware many people have created BiaB SGU or MGU song files over the years? In fact there is an independent Yahoo music group with many, many song files collected over many years. Many people start with downloaded song file then adapt the file to meet their specific need. There is the main group for asking questions or posting replies then two file archive groups. You become a member of the file archive groups at the same time you join the main group. Link is below: +++ Main Yahoo BiaB Song Group +++

With BIAB, I think it took about two minutes to make the reggae cover of D'Yer Mak'er that we do from an SMF. Just loaded, changed the style, and some volume tweaks. No sense in re-inventing the wheel when you just want new rims.

Well just imagine...at that rate you're going, in 686 more years, you'll have the set together.
You've been a member here since 2002... or 14 years x 49 songs = 686 years. Might I suggest that you pick up the pace a tiny bit?
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I'd love to see what features Peter & co. would add to BIAB 2702!

1st I'm cheap. A library of a couple hundred tunes at $6.00 each ads up to a lot of $.
2nd. I have a couple thousand invested in BIAB over the years!
3rd. I want to do the tune my way, not someone else's way. Yeah, they're covers but if you do the tunes exactly like the original it will never be as good as the original, so why bother? I like doing things like changing a country walze to a boogie!

I have been working with BIAB for a while but just recently decided to use the backing tracks in a duo I am working on. First I wouldn't discount the Yahoo group for BIAB because they have a lot of songs that the chord structure is accurate. You say you want to do it your way but with doing a cover the chord structure pretty much has to follow the original tune. Once you download a song from the group then you can change key, tempo, and styles. I can get a really decent cover in about 15 to 30 minutes and it is free. I also download some free midi tunes that once you get decent soft synths and drums added sound great. I will say this I also play in a band and on the last gig we did, me and my fiance (this is the duo I am setting up) did a couple of tunes with backing tracks. What I learned is you have to be really careful about how much you add. It gets into the karaoke world real quick if you over do it. What works best for us was basic accompaniment drums, bass, and rhythm guitar and we play piano and guitar/guitar synth. This really simplifies what you need as a backing track. I have also learned that if I can't sit down with an acoustic guitar by myself and do a reasonable version of a song then backing tracks aren't gonna fix it. Just my 2 cents.

Earl, I hear you. I like doing things that way too I was just thinking that if you really needed a library of good covers, they're available and a lot of them are free.
Keep it up and have fun.

I do appreciate that. Like I said though, I'm kind of stuck on being able to say that all though I'm doing a tune we may all be familiar with, I am doing it in a unique manner worthy of the audience paying attention to it. I have always been bothered by bands that sound JUST like the record. Hey, go buy the record and you'f got it for constant playback!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
