Take It Back

Hi all,

time for another remix contest. Kiwistar & The Voodoo Warriors Remix Contest
I only used the vocal tracks. The vocals were a challenge as they were not in sync with the beat. I did a total reharmonisation because the original used only one chord. What came out has not much in common with the original.
RTs used:
RealDrums_NashvilleEven16^1-Sidestick,Ride
RT2524_ Bass, Electric, FunkHalfNotePulseSync Ev16
RT1574_Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Soul60sLowSteady Ev 110
RT2190_ Piano, Electric, Rhythm Bossa Ev 140
RT2346_ Horn Section, Rhythm, Funk 2-part, Ev 110
RT2347_Horn Section, Rhythm, Funk 2-part, Ev 110 (Simple)
RT1650_Guitar, Electric, Soloist JazzFunkGroovin Ev16 110

I hope you like it.
Guenter

P.S. If you are interested in the remixes of the other contestants here they are:

Wow! Guenter, you are the remix MASTER! I LOVED this!

Unlike a lot of the other entries I could imagine hearing your version on a CD... some of the others were just weird.. as though they tried to outdo one another in edginess.

One of the things I especially like about these projects is that you get to start with GREAT vocals, and this was no exception. I really like the vocalists style, and you did a great job of creating not just a suitable accompaniment for her, but a truly exciting sound track for her singing!

When you enter these contests do you ever get a notice of your ranking when the contest ends? It would be interesting to run a remix contest in which the listeners get to vote on their favorite version!

I'd vote for yours, as it is far more MUSICAL than everything else I randomly sampled. Anyway, glad to see that you are still participating in the remix world... and still coming up with highly creative mixes!

Great job Guenter!! Not really my style of music but what you did with it was fabulous. Really kept in dynamic and interesting. Horns are awesome, and I love that weird "guy falling off a cliff" sound. You ARE the remix MASTER!! Take care. Greg

Hi, Guenter...

OK.. I listened to bits of all of them. The original track was not all that interesting to me. So the remixes that basically kept the original weren't much more interesting - and I quickly clicked on to the next (I poked through spots before I moved on).

Here are a few observations:
Citliva Povala started well, but it got boring.
Volker Brunotte was nice, but got too repetitive.
Perspective shift made it something different.
kacrote was interesting. different.
D. HunTyx made it "something different"...
Fortune the Teller really did his own thing... completely took over the song...HA!
NHK made it interesting - again, totally changing it...
Madpal's had some far-out stuff - really different...
Cecil Theisz kept me listening... and, again, turned it into something totally different than the original...

And then, after all that, I listened to yours.

Holy moly!...

Once again, you have taken this to a place that few could imagine. You turned this into a truly wonderful listen. Raised it so many levels.

The opening references the original for a few seconds - which is all it needs...then bringing the vocal out front where it belongs...and deserves to be.. the horns that come in at :48 - I assume you added those - sweet!... and then the guitar!!! NICE! as far as I remember, no one else added guitar... and the horns again... with that voice!!!

I have to say... as I listened to all those other remixes, I wondered if you could possibly "work your magic" as you have so often done... I apologize for any doubts that I had... because WOW! You KILLED this!

Beautifully done. Incredible mix, too! (That fact is sort of lost in the comparison thing).

Amazing.

Beautifully mixed. You seem to take these remixes to a different level. Your overall concept seems more fully developed than many of the others that I checked. You end up with an amazing sound. You are the king of the remix. Tom

Guenter,

Really great work! Your music not only matches the vocal perfectly but also makes it much livelier. I am very much impressed.

Hi Guenter,
We completely agree with Floyd.
You've done an excellent job on this one.
And we realize how difficult it must have been to get things in sync!

Hi Pat,

thanks a lot for your kind review.
Your replies are always a great compensation for my work.
"When you enter these contests do you ever get a notice of your ranking when the contest ends?"
No. Most of the times I can be sure I have no chance to win because my styles don't fit in what the organisers expect. And I like that.

Hello, Guenter

Very impressive and funky.
As Pat said, you are the remix MASTER!
Successfully done with the RealTracks you chose.
It is a great idea to replace all except powerful vocals.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best Regards.

We sampled a few of the others before listening to yours. Some
seem most interested in themselves rather than what they could do
to make the vocalist center place.

"The vocals were a challenge as they were not in sync with the beat.
I did a total reharmonisation because the original used only one chord."

I very happy that we can appreciate what effort and thought this must
have taken...because I can assure you that we are clueless as to
how you approach such a transformation.

Absolutely amazing!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
