Folks,
The Showcase provides some interesting and detailed comments. The last couple of songs I've posted have had, as a constant, BIAB drums. They have been simpler songs as I've tried to achieve a less is more balance with arrangements. They are, until finished, without any treatment on the master/stereo buss, (no limiter, reverb, sweetener compression etc). They have been, in the main, mixes in progress posted in search of feedback to enhance them. I am learning to incorporate small amounts of BIAB in my arrangements when & where I can't get to a musician who has time or the interest to collaborate.
I am, normally, inclined to build very busy, quite dense arrangements as witnessed by these tracks:
https://soundcloud.com/rayc/the-master
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNUNF0opCdc
There's no BIAB content in these - only musicians playing & recording their parts in Germany, Texas, Canada and Australia.
Both have been mix by me and mastered professionally.
There are more examples of completed tracks on the soundcloud page https://soundcloud.com/rayc
Apparently & HSB are incomplete as is Old Letters. The rest are done. Apparently, The Keeper & Alice have been in this Showcase forum in some form prior to completion.
Guest players at the two links: guitar solos - Gerry Steele, Drums - Greg Loyacano and Vocals/melodies - Joe Mizzi. The rest, as they say, is my fault.

Cheers

Very cool!! Kind of a Cream thing going, although the intro guitar is out of tune. You should get BIAB and mix it in with your stuff. Take care. Greg

Thanks Greg,
The annoying, abrasive, disonnant guitar intro at the end of the 1st link is intentional to create a sense of disquiet to match the theme and subject matter. It is quickly resolved as the song develops.
I do have BIAB 2011Pro and, as explained in the text with the links, I do incorporate aspects of it into my current stuff where needed.
Thanks for listening and the kind comments.

Hi Ray,

It's a very impressive sound you have happening. You've done a great job. Well worth the effort. In case the information is useful, I couldn't understand all the words and, personally, I would have liked to be able to read the lyrics as the song played.

Overall, though, this is definitely a creation to be proud of.

All the best,
Noel

Sergio,
Thanks. Joe has an impressive voice. He usually works in the Metal area but was kind enough to sing three tracks for me.
Noel
Thanks for your kind words. The players on this, myself exempted, are stellar.
Below are the lyrics as written. I've always allowed singers who collaborate with me to take some liberties to get words in and out of a mouth but I try to preserve the written form where possible.

The Master (’s Gone Away).
The sheets were grey,
Where the body had lain,
And the room was filled with shadow.
The morning had come,
With the birth of the sun,
But the mind of the master lay fallow.

The evening had died,
But no mourner had cried,
At the coming of past day’s tomorrow.
Of the remnants remained,
On the sheet but a stain,
And the impression of leaving was shallow.

But the master had gone,
Departed he with the Dawn,
And no-one cried save the sparrow.
For ne’er had it flown,
From its high leafy thrown,
Lest Death come on the wings of an arrow.

And the master, ‘twas said,
Of sparrow had fed,
Taking ill of its fears and its sorrow.
But from his death bed,
With wings he had fled,
And Death rode in the soul that was hollow.

And the bird took a place,
In past time and space,
Retribution for that which was borrowed…

The lyrics to the 2nd link song are somewhat darker...
Thanatogenous
Thanatogenous my friend,
What know you of wine and roses?
My Dark Angel, fold thy wings,
Talk of all that Death supposes.

Brief respite from your duties,
Drink with me of life and I’ll.
Not ask the terminal question,
Come, show your face a little while.
Now, I will simply ask, let,
Business come after pleasure.
Just this once I‘ll clutch the moment,
Though not long for such a treasure.

Thanatogenous my friend,
What know you of love & leaving?
My Dark Angel, rest your tools,
And talk of loss and of grieving.

Brief respite from your duties,
Drink with me of life and I’ll.
Not ask the terminal question,
Come, show your face a little while.
Brevity is your blessing,
And it is my measure.
You shan’t leave unaccompanied,
Just grant me this small leisure.

Thanatogenous my friend,
What know you of loss & mem’ries?
My Dark Angel, hold your stroke,
Let’s talk of men and tyrannies,

I keep you from your duties,
But give me a moment to.
Leave my own feeble impression,
My life like these last seconds flew.
For the thoughts and the memories,
To keep company within.
Now to tarry would be folly,
So let the leaving now begin.

Thanatogenous my friend,
What know you of my destiny?
My Dark Angel, take my arm,
Let’s see to this last tyranny.

Hello Ray,

Well the beauty of BIAB that it's musicians are always available. On top of that recording takes a lot less time than doing in real-time with a band ;-)

The tracks: I listened to the one on YouTube and then to the one on Soundcloud.
Both tracks sound very good. The first one, especially the vocals, strongly reminds me of Uriah Heep just after lead singer David Byron left. The second one reminds me of when he was still in the band ;-).
A very nice 80s hardrock sound you've created here!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
