Thanks Pat, as mentioned to Floyd, I just sang this raw with no filters and have no idea what I would do on a retake, but I will definitely give it some thought.

Re: the inspiration. I have to say I get A LOT of inspiration from this forum because people are writing real stuff, and there are a lot of people writing from their guts. Bob is one example, but there are plenty more on this forum. When I hear raw authenticity, it always ignites another song in me so this forum is great for that.

I also am appreciative of the feedback, I trust it more than commercial feedback because people just seem open and genuine and tell you what they think, and there is no hidden agenda or freaky competitiveness going on. That makes me trust it more.

One final note about lyrics:

When I was younger I got to spend the better part of an evening sitting on top of a burned out Pinto in an abandoned parking lot with a young Micahel Stipe, right after R.E.M. had formed. He told me something to the effect that "if the lyrics make too much sense it's not rock and roll."

According to Michael, and I am paraphrasing, COUNTRY is literal (I walked down to the store today at noon in Memphis) but rock and roll is supposed to be more obscure, and is supposed to resonate in the subconscious. In great rock and roll, he postulated, every listener takes the lyric and hears it in an entirely different way and makes it their own secret story. Or that was the gist of it.

I think I tend to agree with him.

And I am looking forward to a lot more inspiration from this great forum. Thanks!

Really liked Bob's song, really like this one! man, you pack a lot into the 3:48 or whatever length of the song. Love the explaination of the difference between Rock and Country lyrics. Great images in there in these words. Cool song.

And you seem to be chasing and catching every one of them.

All the best,

I agree with Noel I think your songs and delivery are getting better with each song. Like this one.

David,

Enjoy hearing different sides of you. This is like Dylan meets the Boss. I enjoyed the story and the raw emotion. Not trying to analyze it - just listening as a listener and you made me believe what the singer was singing. I thought you did a great job on the song.

(Sorry, I didn't read through all this thread - not much time on here tonight.)

Hello David,

As Bob says you can hear Dylan's and Tom Petty's style in this one.
I like the arpeggiated guitar in background.

Nice lyrics. Very well sung (singing angry) very suitable to the style

David

Can’t say much more or better than what was already said, the mix, the lyric, the Dylanisk vocal and poetry like lyrics …love it.

About your comments about lyrics; I have a friend who worked with many rock groups as a publisher, producer or manager. He has walls full of platinum and gold RIAA certified records…anyway he pretty much gave me the same advice about rock lyrics. Hearing that you had the same advice from a young John Michael Stipe is a nice reminder and conformation to guide me writing for that genre of music. Thanks for sharing your story.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
