Hi Matcham,

Welcome to the forum.

It's good to see another Aussie join in. There are a few of us now!

This is really well put together. I enjoyed the ride. The style suits your vocals, too. You've certainly hit the forum with a bang! It's a great first entry.

Is there any possibility of putting the lyrics up either here or Soundcloud? I got most of the words but some slipped by me. It would be good if I could fill in the blanks.

Looking forward to hearing more from you,
Noel

Thanks Noel! It's great to hear from another Aussie here. OK here are the lyrics. I've noticed that they are a popular addition on the forum.

What Love Is Like

My love is like a wounded asp
She kicks and she bites and she whips my arse
I buckle and I flinch and I duck and I sway
And you know I wouldn’t have it any other way

My love is like some deep Arabian song
Kinda sad and strange and she’ll play you all night long
As I lie beneath the palm fronds, chillum in my hands
I dream of one day living with her in exotic lands

In the stillness of the night time when terror knows no bounds
I feel her presence in the room, she’s nowhere to be found
She’s an omen from the underworld, she tears my world apart
She’s the apple of my eye and she’ll always have my heart

My love is like a wounded asp
She kicks and she bites and she whips my arse
I buckle and I flinch and I duck and I sway
And you know I wouldn’t have it any other way

Matcham,

Your first RT try sounds as good as any veteran post. My first time hearing blue grass behind an accent and colloquialism such as yours. I have to say I like what you do much better. Look forward to more RT posts from you.

Thanks Atze. One forgets that one has an accent! It's good to know it marries well with the bluegrass style. Yep more to come. Lots of ideas! I'm really enjoying quickly trying out different chord/instrument combos as inspiration for new material.

Dylan meets bluegrass with an Australian accent (not that I can really hear it).
Very nice first post.

Matcham, welcome also to the forum.

Fantastic first effort and delivery.

Really enjoyed the lyrics. Great meaning.

The choice of style sits nicely, and even though I was a little surprised with the instrument selection initially, it really grew on me.

Welcome again.

Hi Matcham
great tune by you.

The way you sing and the melody of the song, remember me some passages of "Shelter from the storm" by B.Dylan.

Thanks Sergio. I hear the similarity. I'm curious now to check out the chord structure of the Dylan song.

Well done.
I do harbour one disappointment though: you wrote arse but sang [*****].
I know it's International American & the "audience" is largely accustomed to that but I do like the sound of our own language.
Neither actually rhyme well with asp but you've taken the obvious sound.
If the blue grass elements were swapped for 12 string and 6 string acoustics you'd have a very good Robert Foster/Go-Betweens song both in terms of your voice and the humour.
With the slight issue about pronunciation you've a very clever and well constructed lyric.

Ha! Yeah playing with an Americanism on that word. Thanks for the feedback.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
