Just a little waltz (a bit wordy at 78 words grin)

I've misplaced the original file on this, so no memo. All BIAB with some strings and such added. Comments or crits welcomed. cool

The Widow's Walk
©2015 Robert Randall Burke

Day after day
Down by the quay
She scans the horizon for canvas
A month overdue
Soon becomes two
Down on The Widow's Walk.

Tell her a tale
Of life under sail
And she'll tell you one about waiting
To hear a ship's bells'
Homecoming knells
Down on the Widow's Walk.

The fog is just lifting
As she strains to see
Just what her future will be
A month overdue
Soon becomes two
Down on The Widow's Walk.

Here are my favorite parts of this, Bob:

Day after day
Down by the quay
She scans the horizon for canvas
A month overdue
Soon becomes two
Down on The Widow's Walk.

Tell her a tale
Of life under sail
And she'll tell you one about waiting
To hear a ship's bells'
Homecoming knells
Down on the Widow's Walk.

The fog is just lifting
As she strains to see
Just what her future will be
A month overdue
Soon becomes two
Down on The Widow's Walk.

Lyric writing simply does not get tighter than this. Such a WOW-factor.
The melody is beautiful, too.
The production is perfect for it.

The bar goes up again.

Killer.

I really like this. I think it is very artistic all the way around. Great sounds, warm, charming, and super lyrics.

I really love this song. It's got real hit potential in my humble opinion, but quay is pronounced 'key'. That would drive me nuts. Maybe you can change the first sentence to rhyme with key? Anyway love it. Nice voice. Its style reminds me of traditional English folk songs. smile

'Too close to the Moon' is also really beautiful as well.

Bob, this is a great one. An economical set of lyrics that needs nothing more. It has the ring of an olde English sea shanty wrapped in a waltz. I love the melody. Bravo! Tom

Lovely folk feel - very pretty.
Nice lyric excellent vocal.
(Listened to both versions the guitar sounds much better to me in the uncompressed version.)

Hey Bob,

This is beautiful. The accompaniment is a great fit and, as floyd has already mentioned, lyric writing doesn't get any tighter than this. You sure know how to make 78 words work for you! This is definitely up there with the best!

Noel

lambada,

Thanks for the comments. Actually, "quay" has several different pronounciations, if you study it's Etymology.

"Too Close To The Moon" is a Lawrence Oliver song.

Sensational writing Bob, Master-Class for sure, However Floyd nailed it with his response, I couldn't come close.

Tremendous feel, and your melody, vocals and delivery sets the time and place so perfectly.

I need to say it again: "Master Class"

We liked Tom's description of your tune being a waltz sea shanty.

It's a lovely write. There is much more elegantly stated here in 78 words than
many could say in a couple of pages.

And for us it has the "wow quality" as when it's over we just look
at each other and smile and think YES!

Most excellent.

Hi, Bob !

I really loved this most beautiful
tune and performance !
I don´t really find the right words
for it but it awoke in me a kind of
longing to go back to Scotland again !
There was something Scottish in that
lovely tune, you know !:))

Great, just great Bob !

Cheers

Another great one Bob!! You have such a way with these melancholy songs-lyrics have just the right touch of sadness, and are neither too sparse or redundant. And, the music carries it perfectly. Your roll continues!! Take care. Greg

You're welcome, Bob. I'm a sucker for a good waltz.

My uncles, Tompall and the Glaser Brothers worked with Marty back in the late 50's.

Bob,
I enjoyed your clear measured vocal & the images in the lyric - as others have said , there`s not a word wasted... nice that the last verse leaves the outcome of her waiting uncertain.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
