Thanks Pat. 90s Henley "Boys of Summer"-ish is what I was going for exactly--an ambient wash that would accentuate the drums and percussive elements and allow the vox to stand out. It was a very tricky mix to get the sound I wanted.

It is funny you mention inspiration--because when I feel most "inspired" I am not really thinking I am just kind of going with the music, going with the flow. I had verse one and two and then when I was singing it, the idea came to me "we are all immigrants, in a way, we are all strangers at the gate if you think of it"--then the idea came of what would happen when you approach the final gate? Who gets to say whether you are worthy of entering in at that point? Circle back to beginning.

So, that's how it all got connected. So yes, it is an "Immigrant Song." To bad Zep already took that one or I would be all over that like white on rice.

Thanks for the comments!

David,

Yikes! This is tremendous! I can almost hear this as a long lost Harry Nilsson song. I absolutely love your sound...

Thanks Bob!! The way my sound cloud channel is set up for some reason your song Woodstock plays right after this, and it is amazing how well they resonate back to back, they kind of flow into one another sonically. We should put out a concept album and stage a world tour with Roger Waters.

David, I have listened to this several times. I really like the lyrics and the melody. The production is much different sounding than most of what's posted here and works very well with song. I like the outro oohs. Tom

I agree that it is hard to get that "ambient wash" (as you call it) without making the mix muddy. I play BOYS OF SUMMER live, and its one of the few tracks in my set that I just can't mix to a mud-free state. I've remixed it a bunch of times.. it has defeated me. ;-(

But YOU got it right!! Good job!

regarding the title: I'm glad you didn't make any reference to LedZep's song... your title is more innovative, and the fact that it is never explicitly declared to be about immigrants (and therefore requires a bit of listener interpretation) makes it all the more interesting.

The one unpardonable sin of song writing is to serve reheated leftovers to the audience, and your approach to the topic is fresh and new.

Hey David,
I am a man of few words because I can't speak English so well!
Every time I write something, I have to check if it's correct. grin

Poor me!

"I am in experimental mode these days in all areas, lyrical and musical...."

Indeed, and it's playing out very nicely. We're late to the party and it's
all been said.

We loved this swirling gem!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
