Here's a jazzy trumpet instrumental: Sunday Afternoon

Real Tracks:
Trumpet, Jazz Ballad Sw 085
Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Ballad Sw 085 (Simple)
Piano, Acoustic, Solo-Accompaniment Jazz Ballad Sw 085
Guitar, Electric, Rhythm JazzBalladFreeComp Sw 060
JazzBrushesSticks: a: Brushes b: Snare, Ride
JazzBrushes#1: a: JazzBrushes#1b: JazzBrushes#1

It's a lot simpler than most of my instrumentals. The trumpet part was built from multiple takes, and heavily edited in Reaper. The piano only plays holds on the chords for a very sparse sound.

I was getting some high-end ringing artifacts on some of the trumpet parts, so I split the output, with the dry signal clipping the high end, but sending the unclipped signal to the effects. The compression helped make things a bit more cohesive.

In general, it's probably mixed too hot, but I'm not sure I can hear very objectively at this point. Plus, I'm using effects with EZMix2, and the demo which gives me 15 minutes to play with it before it deactivates for the session. So I'm sort of limited to the number of tweaks I can do before the clock runs out...

Thoughts?

David,

Very nice. The trumpet sounds so natural. Overall, great tone and feel.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks for the feedback! I was going for Herb Albert meets Henry Mancini, which sort of justifies the compression on the trumpet. There's a bit of a buzz at 2:18, so I might have another go at it.

Then again, some things are probably best left alone before they're fixed "too much".

Hey David,

To me, the trumpet sounds different in some parts almost as if it's a different instrument being played by different people. Not a deal breaker just my impression. As if three guys got together and each played their horn.

Nice instrumental with an enjoyable flow.

has almost a live sound to the mix.

I hear the differences that Josie's talking about. but this is nice and laid back. very good.

Hi, Josie.

You're right. Although it's all from the same RealTrack (Jazz Ballad Sw 085), there's a lot of differences between takes. Not really an issue if you're looking at short riffs, but it's a lot more obvious when they're strung together.

I guess it's really asking a lot of the BIAB to be usable as a sample library, too.

Thanks for the feedback!
