The Right Track (VIDEO)
The Right Track (AUDIO ONLY)

As Steve Earle once said "sometimes your hometown brings you down..."

I wrote the lyric; floyd tweaked it, turned a third verse into a bridge, created the melody and Janice did her vocal thing. Thanks big time to floyd for helping with the mix, BGV's and the use of held chords.

We appreciate your time to watch/listen and as always comments are most welcome!

Janice: lead vocal
floyd: background vocals
Bass: RT 1036 Northern Rock
Drums N’ville ev 8th
Guitar Solo: RT 1167 Rock Ballad Brent (the intro was comped from two of many re-generations as was the solo).
Guitar Electric Rhythm: RT 841 Rhythm Pop Ballad Slow Gritty
Guitar electric Rhythm: RT 1169 Soloist Rock Medium Brent /used to create held held chords via the held option
Guitar Acoustic Rhythm: RT 1037 Rhythm Northern Rock Ballad
Piano Rhythm: RT 1725 Rhythm / also used to create the held chord piano track

Mixed in Logic Pro X using Ozone (mastering) Alloy 2 and Nectar.

The Right Track
© 2016 Bud Merritt and floyd jane

too long in this town, too long in shadow
roads lead out, where do they go?
this might be someone's idea of good old days
not mine
i'm parting ways

Chorus

i'm leaving
some might think on a wing and a prayer
but there's got to be peace
between here and somewhere
sun on my face, wind at my back
i'm finally... on the right track

day by day, time gets shorter
while my bucket list just runs over
some things age well like a fine old wine
but a spirit chained
will die in time (so...)

Chorus

Bridge

friends say slow down don't go
but what the hell could they know
i got boots older than most of them
and I ain't leaving on a whim

Chorus

Thank you very much Joe for the kind remarks. Yes, we created the video using iMovie. I enjoy photo editing and use a variety of apps to try and get the images to have a similar look and to support the imagery of the song. All of the images we use are public domain or shots that we took ourselves.

Thanks again!

Like Alyn, I immediately fell in love with the "boots" line. This is a great production (really like the video too). Guitar solo fits so sweetly, and I love the resolution of the chorus. Great stuff!! Take care. Greg

Who is this Floyd Jane guy though? Seems like a suspicious character. Is he easy to work with?

I "discovered" this a while ago - it now has the feel of one of those songs you know & look forward to when it plays.
It has a great melody, and is beautifully performed. Love everything about it.

Bud Janice and Floyd,

You have really excelled yourselves on this one! I liked everything about it.
Great production and sound and catchy melody.

Janice your voice is like velvet and when Floyd joins in for the harmonies it's just stunning.

I also loved Floyd's vocal sound on the "don't go" bit near the end.

Superb,

Good work guys, solid standing arrangement, cool lyrics and a beautiful vocal of Janice. We especially liked the choruses, Floyd does a great job here with a subtle mixed harmony, which has some very interesting notes in it.
Bud, these lyric videos seem to come more and more easy to you, nice one!

Nice job to all.

Good job on the songwriting.

The production was pretty good too. I like the comped solo/fills. Mostly they are tasty and fit nicely.

Excellent.

B,J&f, this is a great write. Beautifully sung and the production is pro all the way. Nice comping on the guitar parts and floyd's finishing touches on the harmonies adds a lot. I also really liked the effect on the vocal. Your usual high standard applies to all areas and it's good to see you exploring further out into other genres. It showcases your versatility. My boots are pretty old also! Tom

Janice, Bud and floyd,

This is such a great listen on all fronts. The lyric video is also very well done. In addition, the lyrics flow and develop the situation so well that everything about the story is 100% believable.

I've listened a few times since the song was first posted and each time, I find myself thinking "I really like how this is done" when the song moves into the chorus. When Janice sings "I'm leaving, some might think on a wing and prayer", there's a feeling of resolution and a sense of 'this is the right thing to do' that is created by the combination of performance, lyric, melody and arrangement. I don't know how you've all done this but the effect is outstanding. Janice, your vocal delivery is perfect for the main character's circumstances. As I listened to you unfold the situation, I found it impossible not to become personally involved in the story.

There is a great deal of talent on display in every aspect of this song. However I measure it, it's first class work.

Regards,
Noel

Regards,
Noel

Thank you Noel. That feeling of resolution was precisely what we were trying to capture. We greatly appreciate your review.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
