Celtic whistle loops

Whistles and Gumboots

On kestrel wings with monkey howls
we ran through fields of wheat
scheming havoc in telepathy
to dare the stares on city streets

now its just the dogs that howl
we sit silent as the muse descends
and clouds pass across the sky
of souls with nothing to defend

whistles and gumboots
and a park bench near the end
sunlight and shadows
in cahoots since we were friends
my past tied to your future
on the day our twined balloons
sailed into the blue

dogs do bark and crows will caw
memories must shimmer
in woods where lovers carve their hearts
you pulled me from deep water

can you trace the lines on these palms
to where our path began
where the river meets the waterfall
there`s no turning around

whistles and gumboots
and a park bench near the end
sunlight and shadows
in cahoots since we were friends
your past tied to my future
on the day our twined balloons
sailed into the blue

A beautiful song Robert. You are absolute natural singer, you do not over emphasize, you just flow, it makes for easy listening and this one was a good example.

The first few opening piano bars I said that’s Real Track 887, I just love using it and you had used it to perfection.
All round you can be very proud of this one

Robert,

You have a real talent for this style of folk song.
You have created a nice flowing vocal rhythm in the chorus with good use of harmonies.

The lyrics are also wonderful and very original..

"scheming havoc in telepathy
to dare the stares on city streets"

"my past tied to your future
on the day our twined balloons
sailed into the blue"

Another great song.
Excellent job.

Thanks for that,Paddy - I really appreciate the vote of confidence in my vocals.
Yes, that piano is great - like water rippling by.

Rec,

Thank you!
I grew up listening mostly to English folk and still lean toward those very simple melodies.
In writing the lyrics I hoped that if the folks who commissioned the nice bench were to hear the song they would find them a good fit.

Very poetic and your voice sounded great with the arrangement. Love that you wrote it after seeing the inscription on a park bench - how cool is that!

"on the day our twined balloons

I really like that, Robert.

You do this style so well. True Folk music. Poetically written (as it should be).

Did you play the recorder on this? (it fits so well).

Hope you don't mind me saying... I thought the piano was too busy - and, actually, thought the song was a bit faster tempo than it should be. Your memo says 126. The piano RT was originally 100. I wondered how it might sound at that tempo (meaning the song at 100). Give those words time to sink in.... Though, I might be wrong.

I like what you do.

Floyd,

Thanks for your comments - I`m really glad you liked this song.
I think posts like yours with a balance of appreciation and considered observation are the bread and butter of this forum... I absolutely do not mind you putting down whatever you notice!
I have to think back about the tempo as I know it began around 110.
As I recall, I found singing part of the chorus melody ( "end" & "friend") sounded laboured at 110, so took it up until that sounded natural, even though the verses did then feel a bit hurried.
I often find myself working at the limits of RT tempo windows -not sure why- but having decided on that piano (originally well within the range) I didn`t want to drop it.I can hear why you find it busy in places so I`m going to have a look at some volume envelopes on that track... and maybe down the road revisit the tempo.
Glad you liked the Celtic whistle- its a few Zero-G loops combined.

Hello, Robert

As Receder said, you have a real talent for this style of folk song.
Celtic whistle loops and Piano are very suitable for this song.
I like this melody and your vocal and chorus sound pleasant.
Very enjoyable listen.

Best Regards.

Floyd did it again!! He always beats me to the punch. Very nice song. Like him, I think the piano sounds somewhat intrusive. I'm not sure about the tempo but the piano makes it feel rushed. Really love the song and the vocal. Take care. Greg

Robert,

This reminds me of the folk from the 1960's and 70's especially Ralph Mctell.
I enjoyed it a lot.

I have looked at a few inscriptions on the local park benches and they are rubbish compared smile
I feel a lot of effort went into the lyrics, beautiful

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
