Latest song from Christiane and myself, a ballad this time.

Counting Hours (reverbnation link)

Song is also up on soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/blue-attitude/counting-hours-featuring-chris-spruit

Counting hours (lyrics by Chris Spruit)

The light of the day
is fading out
Melting down within the heat
the life of this town
The girls and boys
in the neighbourhood
Will get the call
to run back home
before the nightly curtain falls

Chorus:
Get home soon
when the Night comes down
Head back home
when the sun gets low
Find me home
counting hours
down the curbstone
Leave a light on for you
on the window sill
When the night gets still
you know I will
Find me home
counting hours
down the curbstone

The woman next door
she turns the radio on
The thin white duke was a wonderful bloke
it is my favourite song
For my love
maybe he sings to me
Wild is the wind
darling, cling to me
Like the leaf to the trees

Chorus

Bridge:
There were times in life, you know
that I walked through
Every open door to see
the dark side of the moon
every time from now
I’ll spend with you
take me further on
to see
my colours shine on you

Guitar solo

Chorus
Outro

The band:

Drums: PopModernGrooveSync16
Bass: 1827
Pad: 1543
Rhythm Guitar: 1831

Chris plays the piano on this, and I am playing the two lead guitar parts.

All comments pro and con appreciated!

Dave & Chris...

I really like this. A lot!

A good write - very "comfortable" (a good thing). The Bowie and Floyd references are nice touches. A picture well painted.

The arrangement is nice. The "big" bridge into the solo is well done. The guitar solo is sweeeeeeet!

Excellent vocal.

Has the feel and sound of a song that might have been a part of our past... like "I used to listen to this all the time.."

Well done.

Dave & Chris,

Very, very good!
I enjoyed everything on this song, especially the vocal which sounds so warm, upfront and natural.
Most enjoyable listens.

A remarkable lyric write.

The overall production has worked so really well, and the vocals are absolutely spot-on.

This is worth listening to again and again.

WOW, what a great tune!! Just love the laid back and natural vibe happening here. Arrangement is perfect and the vibe is infectious. Love that solo-has the feel of Harrison in Let it Be. This is a REAL treat!! Take care. Greg

I, too, give it high praise. Mostly, the overall vibe is
most appealing.

Thanks so much Robert!

Chris and I have been working together for about a year now, this is our 13th song (lucky 13!). Before that I did mostly instrumentals, so learning how to work with a singer and properly mix vocals has been quite a journey.

But, a fun journey! Thanks again smile

Thanks Scott! I just recently started using the Scuffham S-Gear amp simulator, before that I was using a POD XT to record with. I highly recommend it!

The vocal, arrangement, track choice and the mix all well support the great write.

And the guitar is spot on...and the tone is killer.

A production to be proud of and we most enjoyed the listen.

This is top shelf all the way! I really liked the vocal and lyrics! And that super sweet guitar lead was the icing on the cake. Great chops man!

If I heard this in a record/CD shop I would have bought it then and there.

This is a keeper.

I want my last spoken words to be "I hid a million dollars under the........................"

Thanks Tom, yes, I spent a lot of time evaluating various amp simulators before I discovered the S-Gear. To my ears it is the most natural sounding of the ones I tried, hard to believe it is all being done with software!

Dave and Chris,

This is incredibly good music. The two of you really pack song-writing and song-performing punches with this. Chris's singing is excellent, first class.... so is the production... so are the guitar and piano parts!

I thoroughly enjoyed this journey. The line "Counting hours down the curbstone" is still ringing around in my mind.

All the best,
Noel

Thanks David, I appreciate that! I just fanned you over on reverb too, and had a listen to "Lucifer" over there.

Thanks very much Noel smile Yes, I really like that line too.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
