For week 44, I offer up a lyric of political and cultural commentary that I wrote in 2008: West of Baghdad (Remixing History). The lyrics seem more relevant today, which is a sad state of affairs. https://52tracksblog.com/2016/11/03/track-44-west-of-baghdad-remixing-history/I used the Takeoff Style instruments that include bass, drums, pop-power electric guitars, acoustic guitar, piano, and a Dire Straits solo RT. Thanks for listening and any comments you would like to make. Fred

Very cool write!! Some great lines. That "Dire" guitar is very signature. You did a good job fitting it well into the style of the song. Very nicely put together. Particularly like "remix history". Enjoyed it! Take care. Greg

Very compelling lyrics. Amazing how lyrics written in the past can be so relevant today. We learn our lessons slowly. Well done. Guitar was very cool

Agree with Scott and Greg on this Fred. Some great lyrical imagery like "remixing history". That Dire RT is also a favourite.
One of your best to date.
Cheers Jez

Fred,
Wonderful song Great mix Powerful lyrics, The only thing I think is "out of place" is the lyrics are dark and the song sounds too happy. But then that is just me.
Well done

Love the blend of the driving, energetic track and dark lyrics. Really effective at sucking you in and then making you think. The Dire Straits guitar solo RT goes so well, too. Awesome job!

Fred,
A strong, interesting write. Reminded me of early Springsteen - "Greetings From Asbury Park" feel... tightly woven imagery.
The Dire fills work for this - though at times I find them distracting because they are so distinctively Knopfler - but...they work here as well as anything I've heard them used in. I also thought a different drum choice would suit the lyric - I would guess that is the Nashville Even8 - always a good choice - but I thought a "looser" drum track might be better - maybe one of the RockBlues drums. Just opinions, of course. This is well done, as is. Good mix.
Enjoyed it. Looking forward to the home stretch - I have enjoyed your journey so far...

Fred,
I listened a few times as I think this is one of the best songs of yours I`ve heard. I really liked the backing and the lyrics are rich, insightful and cutting... this is just my feeling, but I found the verses more powerful than the chorus. I guess I just wanted more of an emotional twist of the knife there! Its a very compelling, relevant and timely song.
Robert

FJ, As always, your comments are appreciated. I will revisit the drum kit. As for the Knopfler RT, I used it reluctantly because it has his signature sound. I couldn't find something a bit more subtle. Fred

Robert Robert, Thanks for the comments. My friend Jan Hauenstein wrote the music. I know what you mean about the chorus but it is what it is.... Fred

Fred,
Nice driving song with strong lyrics. As far as yours & Floyds comments on the Knopfler sound - perhaps an effect such as an auto-wah or touch of overdrive would subtly change the sound to give it some individuality. I did a quick experiment with an auto-filter in Guitar rig and it sounded nice.

Peter Peter, Thanks very much for the suggestion. I will try this after the project is over. Fred

Yep, eight years and here we are....sad indeed.
Your vocals and the lyric and really outstanding and the "band" works well for us also.
It's always nice to discover a song like this, i.e., one that brings you back for another listen or two.
Enjoyed it.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
