If you go under the window in BIAB, you will see a full drum and percussive section that displays many nifty sounds like claps, cabasas, etc.
If you tap on any of these instruuments you hear the sound, so they most be somewhere.
But if you hit record (it records to melody track) it will only play back what is selected on melody track, not what you just played. In the General Midi and GM2 selection there are only so many percussives and most shown on the BIAB drum kit aren't listed.
So where to these sounds come from?
And if you want to play back a cabasa or a clap, where do you find that and select it in midi track? Or so that you can export it or open it in Real Band as such?
I know I am probably being stupid so I apologize in advance.

These little apps use the Windows default wavetable for the sounds It would be cool if they recorded as expected but it takes some tinkering to accomplish I do believe they are all mapped to GM specs, however. http://www.mindwaremusic.com/SoundsetterHelp/scr/GMDrumMap.html

Thanks! Yeah, I had to open in Real Band, set channel to 10, export that, then put that in Sonar, then selected Cakewalk TTS-1 midi player, or whatever it is called, then selected Standard set and now I can hear castanets

I can't say every synth fully supports the GM Spec, but it's there.

It was easier in the days of Creative Sound Blasters, where you set the recorder to "what you hear". Some days, I miss that.

The TTS-1 by Roland or whatever it is called in Sonar seems to have it, or close enough. That little app in BIAB is neat for some extra spice.

P.S. Matt, you can still record "What you hear" in Audacity if you have Soundblaster Audigy installed (which I do ) but that is not midi. What I was looking for a way to get at that midi and now thanks to my peeps I believe I may have it..

Set BiaB to use Coyote WT synth as the DXi, it'll load the same Windows wavetable of sounds .. hence the WT.
I believe the same little app is available in RB/PT, and is easier to actually record there.
Also, if I remember correctly, each drum is assigned to a keyboard key, so you can play it from your QWERTY keyboard as well.
Neither way will allow velocity though. I think this is set to a default inside the little app. For me, this made it pretty much useless in real work, which is why I rarely open it anymore. Otherwise it was a pretty cool looking feature in its day.

Neither way will allow velocity though. but once its recorded as MIDI you can always tweak the velocity in piano roll.

For every drum event?
I *think* there is a Randomize function to do it all in one pass, but it's, well, random ..
I'd much rather just use a velocity sensitive keyboard with the same synth in the first place.
If they made this window able to record with a controller it would be much better. I haven't figured out how yet myself (if it is possible).

I use Audacity because I can trim the start and end blank space off and I can save the file in a number of formats.
I want my last spoken words to be "I hid a million dollars under the........................"

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
