Noob here again....When I record thru one channel, I get sound only on one side of the headphones. I understand why this happens, and I thought I knew how to remedy it so it comes out both side, or in the middle, so to speak. The method I thought would work (duplicating the track then panning the duplicated track to the other side) gives me a duplicated same track that will not pan to the other side. Does this have to be done from the mixer screen or perhaps with a buss? Doesn't seem to work from the track screen. Any help is deeply appreciated.

Are you recording with UMC204HD via USB, using RealBand 2014 with your headphones connected to the the UMC204HD ? Or, are your headphones connected to your computer soundcard?

I'm monitoring with my headphones connected to the UMC204 Audio Interface. I'm recording on only one channel, not dual mics, so I expect to be getting sound out of only one side but want to tweak it to hear it on both sides.

Things to try;
1. In case you recorded a one-sided stereo track use: Edit, Track > Split stereo track into 2 Mono tracks, delete the blank track.
2. Press the Stereo/Mono button to the left of the MIX knob on the UMC204HD.
3. In RealBand, on the track in question, slide the L/R vertical slider to the center (or Right Click on the slider and use the dialog box to enter O, Click "OKAY".
4. See if you Main "ALL" knob is panned to one side in the Mixer Window. (hold Ctrl and press 8 to open the Mixer window)
5. Check your audio devices properties to see if one fader is down or if the balance is to one side. Like this; In RealBand, bottom right corner, Audio Settings, Playback Devices, click on UMC204HD so it is Hi-lited, Properties, Levels, Balance, make sure everything there is at 100%.
6. It could be the way you are recording a MONO track. To check this; Options, Preferences, 2-Audio, find "Input Channel For MONO Tracks" change it to one of the other choices in the drop-down menu; record again. This is something that needs to be set before you start recording a track. Also should be sure the track is set to mono (which is most common) before you start recording. This is noted by the default single or double wave icon on the track type.
7. If you want to try to convert a one-sided recording into a centered mono track I think you'll have to export it to WAV, open it in Audacity, export it from Audacity again as a WAV. Set the next track in RealBand to be a MONO track and Use FILE, Import, I should now be a MONO centered WAV file on a track in RealBand. I offer this method because RealBand does not have the option to Convert a Mono track into a Stereo L/R Track. Which would audibly sound the same as a single mono track.

Look at the INPUT settings you have selected or more accurately, the settings the program is using by default.

It's probably set to STEREO by default. In my DAW, Sonar, all inputs default to Stereo and I have to set them to mono manually. Change that input to MONO on the input and it will now send the mono signal to both sides. You will have a choice of LEFT Mono or RIGHT Mono. Select the one you have a mic or other device plugged into. It really doesn't matter which side you use. Both work equally well.

Is the track you are duplicating a stereo track?
If so it likely has the signal on the left side and not the right, so panning it right just makes you hear only the right (empty) side. No joy. (or the opposite sides could be used in the example here, you didn't provide which side worked or which didn't).

As mentioned, if you can split the track to two separate MONO tracks, you will then have a single track for the left side and a single track for the right side.
In RB just select the track, right-click and click Track - Split a stereo track to 2 MONO tracks ..
One will be empty and can be deleted. The other (with the data) can be panned center and heard in both sides ..

at least that sounds like what's happening from your description.

The way to circumvent this is to record to a MONO track to begin with. Many DAWs default to a stereo track for a new track, so it's easy to have happen

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
