Been quite a hairy few weeks. if this continues I soon won't have any friends, if you see what I mean. frown
Anyway:
I wrote this 1991/92 when my son was 7 0r 8 and he was exited for Xmas. I had seen him in his school concert singing carols. he really put his heart and soul into the singing (haha grin ) ; and he was now trying the "can I have just one, Dad" trick before he went to bed.
When he had finally gone, and the wife was checking the wine was worth drinking, I wrote the tune, the words were honed over the following months! Didn't sound a bit like this version, tho.

Last Christmas eve night

last Christmas eve it was'nt raining
but boy oh boy was it cold
last Christmas eve I was explaining
How your Christmas day would go
the tree was setup in the corner
lights on ready to go
presents were piled up in the corner
and all you wanted was for Santa to show

and you were singing Hallelulah
singing with all your might
singing Hallelulah
with me, last Christmas eve night

the cat was outin the kitchen
pacing back and forward on the floor
the dogs as usual were sleeping by the fire
amusing us with their snores

and you were singing Hallelulah
singing with all your might
singing Hallelulah
with me, last Christmas eve night

and you were singing Hallelulah
singing with all your might
singing Hallelulah
with me, last Christmas eve night

Very cool tune Alyn. I am sure your son got a kick of you writing a tune for him. Would be pretty proud of his dad

Merry Christmas Alyn.

Great to hear a new Christmas song - after hearing the same Christmas compilation playing in the stores since the 1980s, I stopped being a fan of this genre, but this is refreshing.

Nice, uncluttered arrangement. Loved the chorus, which I'm still singing.

The harmonica was just spot-on.

Hope you have a super festive season.

Cheers, ROG.

Alyn,

This is WONDERFUL!

Excellent write - a VERY original Christmas song.

And, MAN! What a nice production. That guitar sounds great! The spoons and harmonica are terrific choices. The mix is excellent.

Top notch entertainment all the way around.

Good to hear from you Alyn and what a great return!

Love the acoustic guitar tone and riff.
All of those vocal/harmony tracks on the chorus also sound great!!
Lots of neat little touches - like the weird echo on "by the fire".
The harmonica solo also fits beautifully.

Really enjoyed it.

Alyn,

A refreshing and hugely entertaining take on Christmas.
Loved the whole production ( especially the spoons) and having just listened to an 8 yr old singing for all his might at his school concert, I can appreciate that Dad might have been tempted to relax the rules that Christmas eve.
Thanks for giving me a good singalong!

How do you do that?

Two RT's, a spoons loop and drums...yet the listener
is captivated from beginning to end. A clinic in how less
is more.

Regarding Christmas songs, you just set the piano on fire and left
the stage.

Wow!

Cheers floyd,
Once I heard the song with that guitar I went WOW that's it, perfect.
And the spoons were perfect. I have been trying for ages to get a song with them as the rhythm and everything fitted so well

Have a good Christmas!

Thanks Greg,
I sadly have lost too many friends in the last month or so. 5 at last count frown so have been a bit depressed.

I always write from my heart/mind and I still laugh with my son about his theatrical, and over the top, singing technique grin laugh

All the best for Christmas

Neat song Alyn! That harmonica coming in made the song. If Neal Young would do a Christmas song this would be it. Thanks, Torrey
