I have been using BB back up tracks for years now for the purpose of learning the notes (scales) and chord progressions in the variety of keys. In may case, that amounts to around six or seven major keys, including Bb. Example: Streets in DmajA simple chord progression that BB can easily transpose to another key. That way, the musician can get used to chord changes of different keys, adding interest. Streets of Bakersfield synchs with In Heaven There Ain't No Beer. Another good song is IKO. I think it is a 1-5. In my current project. I am adding sheet music in multiple keys. Today's software makes that almost as easy as pushing a button. Amaze your friends by breaking it out in the key of Eb.

Nice study piece.
I had never thought much of all the musical training tools BIAB offers although I was aware of teachers on YouTube using the software and that BIAB markets products educational packages.
Last year, I purchased the Pro Pak for my Granddaughter, activated in her name, loaded it on a computer for Christmas. She has taken piano for several years and I'd noted that she is quite good at hearing a music piece and learning to play it by hear.
Before purchasing BIAB for her, I researched some of the different teaching tutorials, programs and was really impressed at the educational teaching features attempting to make sure that the program was not to difficult for her to operate at her age.
Eric Blackmon has a wonderful program based around BIAB on YouTube. Zane Carney and Rodney Gene Jr. are exciting and outstanding examples of the teaching capabilities of BIAB.
I planned to take advantage of this BIAB benefit and finally claim my lifelong dream to play decent lead guitar.
It's all there if I can motivate myself to do it.
Charlie

Interesting report, Charlie.
With people, especially young people, I think, sometimes the best results come from those studies and challenges that the student came up with <em> on his or her own.</em> That's been my experience. At the same time, what's the point of learning if we are not going to take the advice of the teacher, who. presumably, has been there. Still, we place a priority on the creative.
Like the SUV driver said, "So many pedestrians, so little time." Now that you have put the BB in daughter's hands, would be very interesting if you would journal the proceedings, for us.

BiaB is also great for learning new genres also. I would not be doing all the music I am doing today without BiaB. Eb? You must be a guitarist I had to learn to play in Eb the hard way, on stage with a sax playing band leader and that old, very tiny print, fake book. I still have that fake book!
I just posted a selfie and all of the responses were get well soon!

Jah, Mario, always electric. I went for years before taking the challenge to learn to press the letter names of the fret/string base on an ink blot seen on a staff. It is fun no matter how you want to approach it. That's a great point, that BB backs up many genres. The blues backings are terrific. Your experience learning the key of Eb comes under the heading, "school of hard knocks." My project now is to take a song, transpose the sheets into 12 major keys, transpose the BB backing in the same way, and supply it as a learning aid. Scale practice is boring. What's not generally known is that scale practice can be integrated with any chord progression. I have a suspicion that is how jazz was invented, though we'll never really know.

Eb? You must be a guitarist I had to learn to play in Eb the hard way, on stage with a sax playing band leader and that old, very tiny print, fake book. I still have that fake book! Playing in Eb is easy, just tune down a 1/2 step I read an interview with Colin James many years ago, very famous guitarist in the Canadian blues scene. His band was the opening act for Stevie Ray Vaughn at the time. Stevie of course was known for using really heavy strings and tuning down a 1/2 step to compensate. Anyway, Stevie was watching from the wings when Colin broke a string in the middle of a song, didn't have a backup guitar so Stevie loaned him his. As soon as he started playing he realized he was 1/2 step lower than the rest of the band, so he had to play the song 1/2 step up, imagine trying to get your head around that, especially when playing a solo?

Good story. If it were associated with anyone other than SRV, it would be hard to believe. As it is, entirely feasible. In my travels, I've heard only one performer deliver a convincing cover of SRV. It can be done.
Yes, I play guitar. My recent study involves learning to play the notes, in key of Cmaj, to BB backing tracks. It has been a rewarding challenge. Should I get bored, the next step would appear to be expanding beyond Cmaj, to, say keys of Gmaj or Dmaj. The genius of standard notation is that this may be accomplished using the same sight reading skills, with the addition of learning to flat or sharp appropriate notes to stay in scale. I'm looking forward to it for another reason. When we play in a key all the time, we tend to get into a rut. Learning to use the moveable chords, the triads, is another way to remain flexible. Or, a capo.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
