Many thanks to you guys for reading through my fairly wordy posts and for doing your best to try and help me come to the right decision over which version of BIAB to purchase. I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, I'm still considering which version to go for, or whether just to stick with what I already have. It's not so much the cost that is the issue, but weighing up whether my expected use of the product is going to justify the cost.

Just to clarify a few things. I currently have BIAB 2008 Ultra and it is absolutely fine for testing different styles for my songs. There are 1733 to choose from.
However, only the Realdrums (and maybe the odd bass or pad sound) are ever really of good enough quality to use in my recordings.
This is not really a problem for me though, because I play guitars, bass, and keyboards, and I have quite a rich collection of instruments in which to make my music with.

The fact that I'm new to the forum should be an indication that I was not previously interested or even aware of the huge strides that PG Music have made in developing their software since 2008, and it was only by chance that I saw their video ad for BIAB 2017 on Facebook.
Like many of you guys, I was stunned to hear real musicians playing in so many different styles in the latest version, and it sparked me into finding out more.
It got me thinking that I could maybe use an occasional extra instrument to enhance and expand my sound.
What I'm not interested in is flooding my recordings with amazing instrumental solos from BIAB and then my music ends up sounding like one of the BIAB demos (as impressive as they are).

I currently record my music, one track at a time, onto a Zoom R16 digital studio which is capable of linear PCM recordings (WAV type) at 16/24-bit and 44.1-kHz sampling rate.
These are transferred to Audacity on my Windows PC where I do my editing, sound processing and final mixing. The final track can then be saved as a 16 or 32 bit wav, mp3 or Flac.

In conclusion, I believe that in order to make it worthwhile me upgrading to BIAB 2017, I would ideally like to have as wide a choice of musical styles as possible to choose from (as I have now), which means that I would probably be looking at the UltraPlus PAK.
Paying more for the Everything PAK is unnecessary because I don't need the video tutorials or the Midi songs and lessons, and on reflection, I probably don't need the Audiophile version after all.

I can't comment on Realband other than to say that it looks impressive in the demos and I would be interested in trying it out. However, there are many other features of BIAB that I'm not interested in using, but I do appreciate why there can't be such a thing as a tailor-made version.

Great Andy

It looks like you have some direction.

One thing for sure is that you'll be amazed at the RealTracks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
