I love the way the guitar and vocal tonality seem to be perfect for the digital medium. Come through loud and clear. Interesting meaning, also, to the narrative.
Josie will tell you that I have sent this to several influential recording artists. She'll give you the names.
Your guitar grabbed me by the ears. Fabulous sound and picking.
Thanks so much.
Donny
Thanks, so pleased you liked the guitar sound. If you'd like to hear the guitar sound I was trying to emulate for Joanne's song listen to JD's "I'd Rather Be A Cowboy" below. He's using an Ovation Adamas; I used a 1985 Ovation Elite with the same internal pickup system and a bit of JD-style crosspicking. Fun stuff!:
Also, I started using "Rob" because Joanne commented that there were a lot of Bob's on here.
I sent this to one of my favorite little people. She asked, "Is it a true story?" I told her I would ask.
It's about a wise and patient little girl, greeting the world with a degree of uncertainlty and intrepidation. The father could be any father. Then, just like Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz," the world suddenly opens up to her as a colorful, amazing place.
She's in her forties, now, with a wonderful husband and three lovely children.

Is it a true story?
Hey, Ed.
Joanne artfully created the story in the song from a nugget of a story she heard on a radio show. To read more about it see Joanne's explanation of the story here:
Oh, it's great. I'll pass that along, as I have passed the link along to my local DJ.
I saw some interesting backing tracks on Josie's site. She has quite a range. I listened to Amazing Graze and thought I might snag it and try playing along with it. It's bouncy. It's different. Like most everything I've heard of Josie, mysteriously pleasing.
I try to have sheet music for everything I have. There's nothing quite like the lyrics and chord changes like we get on Chordie. Like BB, they have done so much for music. Still, to play melody, the sheet music is so helpful. It looks like I transpose to Gmaj my Amazing Grace, made in the amazing NCH Crescendo.
Yeah, I might try it. Not full scale solo, but maybe some fills and one verse or chorus. Band in a Box might get a hold of Bob. He's in a class by himself.
What a beautiful collaboration. This should be on iTunes
Scott,
It IS available on iTunes in her new album. Every song on it is equally beautiful. Go to her site and download the entire album for free. That's how generous Josie is!

Hey Scott...glad you liked it. This song is on Joanne's FAWM 2017 project album, "A Song To Wake You In The Morning" so I'm guessing it's available on iTunes. Check her website for more info

Hey Don...ever think of getting that chicken some Xanax? Dude's gonna flop over dead from exhaustion one day. LOL
Hi Guys. I guess I have been sleeping while this conversation was going on. Glad I didnt miss it.
Thanks for all the great comments. Rob did a great job of adding some real meat to the basic lyric and mixing this one (and adding his tasty drop D guitar!). Thanks Rob.
My FAWM album has been released on all major digital platforms and you can buy it or just listen to it anywhere you normally listen to your music (including Youtube). The album is called "A Song to Wake you in the Morning" so just search for that and you will find it. You are welcome to listen on my website but as soon as it was digitally released I removed the ability to download for free (in terms of my contract with Unique music).
Here is the back story to the lyrics: I am completely hooked on Desert Island Discs podcasts. There are the most interesting people interviewed and it is always interesting to hear their choice of 8 discs they would take with them if they were stranded on a Desert Island. I hear endless songwriting fodder in my insomnia induced listening.....This particular story was told by Sigrid Rausing who is a Swedish philanthropist. The story so inspired me that I wrote a very basic lyric. Rob took the lyric and fleshed it out. I put the music to it and Rob added guitar and mixed and mastered.
I did send it to Sigrid but didnt hear a word...maybe she wasn't impressed with how I embellished the story.....but I am so glad people here like it.
BWT ED, I have put the Amazing Grace MP4 on dropbox and anybody is most welcome to download it and use it in any way they want (it is public domain).

Thanks, Joanne. You're too kind. I think the real magic of this song is the fact that you took that small sliver of an idea from Sigrid Rausing's interview and turned it into a very lovely and believable story. We were kinda like kids playing "telephone" where the story gets embellished each time it's retold. Fun stuff. I doubt the actual back story could be as wonderful as what you deftly imagined into such a great song idea. Not only that but you created the perfect melody to complete the music base I created with BIAB. There were a million ways that song could have been sung and you seem to have instinctively chosen the perfect one. Add to that your lovely voice and it's a knockout.
For those who'd like to play along and/or study the progression and structure of the song, here's the original BIAB file which I've uploaded to Dropbox. The BIAB file was created on Feb 18, 2017 with the latest BIAB EP updates available at that time.
It is a terrifc recording for a number of reasons, not the least that Bob's guitar tone translates perfectly through the digital and on line medium. Remeber when they said that Elvis Preseleys recordings were perfect for ths AM car radio? That's the idea. Something like that could be said for Josie's vocal. But the song itself -- you guys could see that I had a certain interpretation. But of course, the song is all about the awakening of a little girl, now a woman, ready to have her own husband and children...what else could it be about. (I'm sure you get the idea. When yuou can say, the song is what you make of it, then you have something.) Yeah, Josie, I took that SGU and exported it to WAV aqnd out the WAV on to a track of a digital eight track recorder. That banjo style is really not my style, but I am having fun with it. (BB transposed it to my familiar Cmaj. So, thnks for sending it. Who knows, I'll keep playing around with it. Not to be picky, but wasn't amazing race in 3/4? I dunno.....Most of the people here use DAW, I think. So, if you have three or four WAV tracks in sync, they can work with them. The elements that came together on that Juniper song, though, that's a rare thing when that happens.
Btw, I hope more people take advantage of Josie's download offer of the BB file. (I scanned it) of Amazing Grace. Notice the change in rhythm after the first 12 bars. I've not seen this creative use of the program & would like to know more about how that was done.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
