Usually when you hear the phrase " unintended consequences " it is about something bad. Not necessarily the case. Many thanks to all that listen and comment.

Wrong Turn

Always said I was a traveller never settle down

No woman’s gonna tame me then I’d laugh out loud

guess that i knew better than to believe in my own lies

a master of deception a total waste of time

late at night I’d have a thought life is better shared

Once again I laughed it off as if I didn’t care

It was a wrong turn that led me to her doorstep

thought that I was on another road

It was a wrong turn but it was meant to happen

Sure am glad I took the long way home

sit here by the wood stove throwing memories in the coals

I've been Burned so many times Ash is all I know

don’t want to have to go through all that pain again

Hard to feel any warmth at all from the places that I’ve been

Whenever it gets colder you can hear the north wind blow

And every time I hold her I thank God I’m not alone

It was a wrong turn that led me to her doorstep

thought that I was on another road

It was a wrong turn but it was meant to happen

Sure am glad I took the long way home

It was a wrong turn that led me to her doorstep

thought that I was on another road

It was a wrong turn but it was meant to happen

Sure am glad I took the long way home

Great intro, super guitar!

The intro is so important to grab listeners
and too often ignored by songwriters.

This has a strong hook

Such a solid song, has feeling and the execution
and production is top notch

Tommy you're a pro

enjoyed!

Tommy,

Once again you have delivered a very melodic rock song, with very cool guitar work as usual!

Tom,

Now this is the kind of song I wish I could find on the radio -
a super intro ( so I`m not tempted to fast forward) and with a great hook on the chorus that had me humming along the second time round.
The bonus is in the lyrics - such a neat twist on the familiar and with some really cool lines:

"sit here by the wood stove throwing memories in the coals

I've been Burned so many times Ash is all I know"

Very enjoyable music!

Robert

Hi Tom,

Clicking onto one of your songs is like tuning into a radio station that doesn't exist but sure as hell should. We could listen to a station playing your songs all day - and probably all night, too.

As everyone has already commented, your intro is an instant attention grabber. This sounds as professional as anything we've heard here and a lot of other places. The play on words with "wrong turn" and "wrong way home" meld perfectly for the story in the lyric.

The arrangement is thoughtfully structured with lots of variety, yet keeping everything perfectly melded. Plainly stated, this is damned good music!

Thanks for a great listen.

Kenny, I have always been a sucker for a signature lick. Think of all the great songs that you can identify immediately from the opening guitar part. Thanks for all the generous comments. They are appreciated. Tom

Nice.

And, already mentioned...
"sit here by the wood stove throwing memories in the coals

Consistently excellent. Write, vocals, mix. Nice guitar licks.

Super, super, super. Top-notch all around. (Think I'll just copy this for the next song...)

"sit here by the wood stove throwing memories in the coals"

What a killer line...could've been throwing letters or photos in the coals or could just have been letting thoughts flow into the coals.

And that is one line of so many fine ones. Everybody has mentioned the super effective hook and, yep, man is it ever.

The whole production is tightly glued together with your engineering skills. The loops, RT's, your acoustic/electric guitars all sound like a group of tight studio artists.

And the vocal, Tom you are stretching out more vocally with each production and it is working big time. Nothing really left to say other than "keep 'em coming!"

I'm left with few things to say or repeat what others have said.

How do you get THAT drum sound? Also, what are "royalty free loops?"

Thanks Tommy! I like that song a lot! It's stuck in my head right now.

It's funny that you heard that. It started out as wrong way home. Then I thought that I was using wrong too much. So I changed it to long way and decided that it was the essence of the song. It seemed to work on multiple levels. Thanks so much for the wonderful review. Tom

Caaron, Lately I have been using CLA Drums from waves along with EQ from Logic Pro x. The loops simply mean that there is no royalty to be paid when using them to create your own composition. Thanks for the very nice words. Tom

Tom,

Have I used 'superb' when talking about your work? I can't remember and it's the first word that sprang into my mind when the intro kicked in! Everything about this is superb... the writing, the arranging, your singing, playing.... everything!

The sound that you've created is fantastic! To my ears, it's really clean and sharp but not brittle and harsh. Is that the CLA plugin from Waves?

floyd has already mentioned the below lines...

Originally Posted By: Tommyad

... and I agree with him. They are connoisseur lyrics; written by a lyricist who knows how to use words to their maximum. It's such a great extended metaphor!

Ok... I'm going back for another listen now.

All the best,
Noel

In this song there are 228 separate loops cut, spliced and sewn back together again. There are portions of 5 real tracks and my acoustic and electric guitars and 3 tracks of vocals. There are 44 separate plug-ins for processing. The loops are Multitrack Drums, Bass, Banjo and Guitar. They are from various sources, the majority are from Big Fish Audio. I have loops from Logic Pro X, Garageband, Drums on Demand, Loopmasters, Uberschall, Dieguis, EZ Keys, Apple Loops, and so many more that I’m not sure where they came from. ( Thousands ) If something doesn’t work I search around through my library and start plugging them in. Biab works great with these and can really add something special. You have to find a style that matches up closely and write an accurate SGU, then you have an added flexibility to add different sections without any loops at all in them. Bridges, etc. Another tricky thing is to get the sounds to match up EQ wise. If you are using Drums from Biab in a section it needs to sound close to what the loop sounds like. Same with bass and other instruments. It’s just another way to do things. I build the track first and then write to that. I think they call it top line writing. I hope this comes a little closer to answering your question. Tom

Right on! I kind of felt that's what you must being doing but wasn't sure. That shows SUCH a dedication to your craft! I honestly can't thank you enough for you this response. It explains so much of how you are getting your sound AND the amount of work it actually does take to get to that level.

You could write a master class on song production. REALLY well done! smile

Well, I think the strength of your voice is the real hook.

The sound that you've created is fantastic! To my ears, it's really clean and sharp but not brittle and harsh. Is that the CLA plugin from Waves?

Ok... I'm going back for another listen now.

All the best,

Noel, You are always so very thoughtful in your comments. This is no exception. I really appreciate your generous words. Yes, it is the CLA from Waves. Thanks again, Tom

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
