Finally have got around to load my BIAB 2017 Everything PAK.

Loaded the basic what is needed to run BIAB from the USB drive. Installed what was needed in the Windows Acer laptop and all that was necessary seemed to install ok. Interesting it did not install a shortcut on the desktop but no problems created one.

So BIAB boots no problem, beauty I thought had a brief scratch around, threw some chords in an played no problems. That was until I wanted to close the program down. It would not close. It spat out a fault log which has been sent to PGMusic so we will see what they make of that.

I had to eventually close BIAB via task manager, it just would not let me close it down.

Anyway thought a pc shutdown and reboot might do the trick. Wrong! If I try an boot I get " Cannot find/or problems with datalist.asc" That all it will let me do now.

If I leave the USB drive plugged in I get an error report " Exception EOSError in module Band-in-a-box at 0000D591 a call to an OS function failed."

Suspect I will need to uninstall and reinstall BIAB and hope that this recovers the program operation.

Anyone else had this issue?

Regards,

Ian

Just uninstalled BIAB and reinstalled from scratch. All appeared to install properly but get exactly the same error messages above from the get go, it did not boot up the BIAB program this time around though.

Just the pesky two error messages.

Knew my learning curve was going to be steep but this is rediculious. frown

Will need PGMusic tech support methinks.

Ian

No, that problem has not been reported by anyone else here. Sorry you're having difficulty.

Yes, do call PG Music Support. They can even connect remotely to your laptop to diagnose the problem.

Good luck.

I get occasional crashes on rendering WAVS from Midi tracks due the VST synth i like to use, Hypersonic 2; it sounds good for midi, but might be an outdated beast pluginwise. But so much easier to get going than the Omnisynth i once bought, as being recommended (and included 3 or 4 years ago?) by PG music. USB related crashes with audio drivers and even hangs are often related to graphics drivers in relation to Windows 10. Thus you'll have to tell more about your used system LoL. F

Ian,

Try this to see if it makes a difference.

1. Right click on the start-up short cut you created.

2. Select "Properties".

3. Under the "Compatibility" tab, select "Run this program as administrator".

Does this help?

Also, when you start the USB drive, does it always use the same drive letter? (This is necessary for location of Realtracks and Realdrums.)

Regards,
Noel

Hi
Yes indeed USB drive letters are allocated depending on the order they are inserted
So to say if your USB HD is drive j today when you install .
Then you take it out for some reason and insert another usb device say usb mem stick .if you now switch of and reboot the memory stick will be the first device seen and may get the letter you used for the USB HD, making it K this will break the links to where windows thinks BIAB is
Two ways round this don’t unplug your biab hard drive or reserve a drive letter for that drive, Z is a good one¬
Mike.
Here is alink on how to do this.

Ian,

You don't say when you got BIAB 2017, but if it's been sitting around for a little while, it would pay to download the latest update and manually install it. The update can be found at...

http://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

Plug in your USB drive and double-click on the update exe file to get it running. When it gets to the path section, you'll need need to point the update installation to your USB drive.

Out of curiosity, what antivirus software do you use? It could also pay to exclude the \bb and \Realband directories from being checked by the software.

Regards,
Noel

Sorry guys for my tardy reply been up to my armpits in alligators.

Rang PG Music tech support this morning hooked up with Ken on their customer support he was great. Knew exactly what the problem was as they had seen it a number of time before.

Basically operator error not understanding how the system is confirgured when you run the program from the USB drive. Never configured running a program from USB before. Had me sorted in less than 10 minutes.

Nice to know that when you buy a product it is backed up. So Ken if you tune in to this posts thanks again!

And thanks to you guys for jumping in with you helpful suggestions, it is appreciated. Nice community going on here!

Ian

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
