Another rock tune from Christiane and myself, crank up the volume for this one:

The Bullet

The Bullet (2017, Chris Spruit)

V1
Burning in a fever
I got caught out in the rain
Maybe I'm too eager
a bullet in my vein
I can’t say it is going to save me
but I swear it takes the blues
I am burning for you baby
yeah, take the bullet when I lose
V2
Dancing at the border
of a dry and wasted land
Burning down the bridges
as I know you understand
How to tame the running horses
all the good and all the bad
I rely on you my baby
yeah, hide the bullet in your hand

Bridge
"I rely on you" improv

Guitar solo

V3
I am burning for you baby
it is keeping me alive
Maybe I'm too eager
but life is not that kind
I am burning for you baby
and I know it takes the blues
The bullet in my vein
take it while I lose

The band:
Drums: RockBritDrivingEv16
Bass: 1418
Piano: 1838

I recorded five guitar tracks for this, lots of fun!

As always any feedback is appreciated!

Hi Ember,
Yes, it is a technique called doubling, quite common in rock music. I have two guitars playing a similar rhythm part, panned left and right, and then two guitars playing a similar riff pattern, panned left and right.
Not throughout the entire song, just in key places. And then I have the lead guitar on top.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, I appreciate it smile

Dave,

WOW! Outstanding! This is a great song - the guitars are excellent and I love your lead tone, especially that fluted sound right at the songs end...

Chris has the swagger of Ann Wilson - tremendous vocal.

Loved it!

This is great classic rock.

Every part of the song delivers. The expression throughout is quite remarkable.

What a fantastic production. Guitar work stands out too.

Dave & Chris...

Dang!

This is over-the-top good in so many ways.

Chris' vocals are awesome! Powerful, confident. "Woman Rock" as it should be - as Bob says "Heart-like".

Excellent Rock write, too! Not an easy thing to do. Great "rock phrases" that allow the singer to really "belt it out there" - with just the right amount of "meaning" vs. ambiguity for the listener to fill in the blank. Probably the best Rock write ever presented on the forum.

Top-notch guitar work from every angle. The solos and fills are AWESOME!! LOVE the tone (S-Gear?). The backing guitars are nice - tasteful, not over-done. Perfect. (Nice piano sound! - really well positioned/mixed).

Excellent mix.

This is STUNNINGLY GOOD.

Zowie, y'all. KEEP IT UP!

Never really understood the term "classic rock", to me it's just rock. Unless it means it is rock music made by old people, in which case in it makes perfect sense :P

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment, I/We appreciate it!

To answer your question; yes, all of the guitar tracks are going through the S-Gear amp simulator, I love it! In addition I'm using the Waves CLA guitar fx plugin on the lead guitar, picked it up on sale for $29 last week.

Thanks again, we appreciate it smile

We are on the third listen as we write this. Man, I hate to use such a trite term...but what the heck:

AWESOME!!!!!

Everything floyd said, and others, is well deserved.

Gotta be one of the absolute top productions on the forum this year.

The guitar and vocal performances are over the top good and you wrapped it up in an incredible mix.

Kudos!!!!

J&B

PS That piano was a perfect choice too.

WOW

This is better than almost everything that I have heard on the radio lately! Super vocals, lyrics and what a great mix. That plus your outstanding guitar chops make this a keeper.

If I heard this in a CD store I would buy it. It's that good.

Dave,

Well, it seems all the appropriate accolades have already been offered. We'll ditto all of them. Stunningly awesome ... already used in one way or another both worthy of a repeat. The only thing we did like was that it came to and end -- every time we played it. You and Chris have a winner here. One of the very best tracks on the forum in quite some time. Standing "O"!

Mr. Bell and Ms. Spruit:

Yeah, this is "rock" all right, as in a big, hard n' heavy one lobbed from my speakers that landed up-side my head -- !thunk!

The imagery of the lyrics in "The Bullet" are as stark, as searing and surreal as a nightscape glimpsed between flashes of lightning, and Ms. Spruit lashes each word out as though she's lived them.

And while I agree with Greg Johnson's statement that the lyrics had "just the right amount of "meaning" vs. ambiguity for the listener to fill in the blank," there's no doubt in my mind that we're talkin' 'bout some kind of armor-plated love, here.

Five guitar tracks, Mr. Bell??? You should be recording RealTracks for Band-in-a-Box, so we could use them.

Bruised, but not battered,

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
