Don't Call Me When You're Lonely

I really like the slow rockin' feel of this particular style. The only addition to the style was the RT Mandolin and my Telecaster for fills. BIAB tracks were exported to Reaper for vocals, guitar, and final mixing.

Thanks for listening,
~Bob

Don’t Call Me When You’re Lonely
© 2017 Bob Buford

I left home in sixty-seven just to try to
Find a reason to hang on
She was not the one I needed
But she taught me how to love and get along

Seems I always liked riding all alone
Two big wheels, my old guitar, and this phone
But don’t call me when you’re lonely
I can’t say when I’m coming home

Down on Pearl Street back in Boulder I believed
We’d both live out our song
But her heart just wasn’t in it
And she found another love to drag along

All this time I was thinkin’ I was wrong
After years of feelin’ guilty I got strong
So don’t call me when you’re lonely
I can’t say when I’m coming home.

I got this old beat up Martin back in Denver
It just feels right in my hands
We’ve spent all these years together on the road
Playing beer joints with the bands

There ain’t nothing I have written could last long
No one cares cause it’s just one more hurting song
So don’t call me when you’re lonely
I can’t say when I’m coming home.

love the melody and laid-back feel of this sad song

nice chord choices and some very tasty guitar licks

Could be just me but i hear a cross btw Dwight Yoakum and Vince Gill

and that's a "so good" thing

enjoyed the listen

Hey Peter. You got it...Eagles was kinda what I was going for; didn't have time for the harmonies as the contest deadline was looming. But maybe later. Appreciate your comments.

Tom! Thanks, man. Pleased you liked it. BTW...I got BIAB back in the 90's too. I found most of the original packages but not all. Is there a way to find out when exactly I got it? I remember installing it one afternoon (from floppies) and staying up til 2am playing with it. I'm still amazed.

Later gator (Florida saying) grin

We've spent some time in Co...so thanks for the memories.

The fine vocal really carries this production...the laid back feel of it works really well with the lyric and melody. "Laid back" can often, in our book, kill a song but when it's pulled off like this it can really work. There's just the right amount of road weariness in the lyric, arrangement and vocal to give a very authentic feel to the story. Everybody in the band (RT's and you) are hittin' the note.

Enjoyed it.

Hi J&B (love typing that; flashback to college)

Thank you so much. You got a lot out of what I wrote. Not everyone does. But, hey you've been here, you get the vibe.

Thanks for listening, smile
