You Never Know About Love

I couldn't sleep last night, so this is what I was doing between 2:00am and 5:30am. It's just a simple little Jazz thing that's, hopefully, a little bit of fun. The lyric came to me pretty quickly - about 45 minutes total. I did the vocal in one take and mixed it and this is what I ended up with. I had Steve Tyrell in mind as I put this together. He's my favorite Jazz vocalist. If you're not familiar with him, he's the guy who sang the soundtrack to the movie, "Father Of The Bride".

It was a pretty tough day yesterday - Diana's health took a serious setback, our daughter had surgery a couple days ago and is having complications, and a few other things. Writing songs is a good stress reducer for me. Hope you like it a little bit. Thanks for the listens!!!

You Never Know About Love
© 2017 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Randall, BMI

(v1)
It can build you up, it can tear you down
Take your heart and turn it all around
One thing’s for sure, you never know about love
Sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it’s cold
It might be timid, or it might be bold
It’s a sure-fired bet, you never know about love

CHORUS
The heart’s a fickle thing
Like weather in the spring
Will it be sunshine or rain from above
Surprises all around
Discoveries to be found
You just never know about love

(v2)
It can make you stop, or it can make you go
But often times you just don’t know
But it’s always true, you never know about love
You might know the time, you might know the date
Know if you’re early or if you’re late
It’s a mystery, you never know about love

CHORUS

Great work on this, Alan smile I really like the slow, gentle groove of this tune. It's very pretty, and very relaxing to listen to.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks so much, Deryk. I originally had it at 96 bpm but dropped back to 85. Don't really have a good technical explanation - just sounded better to me. Glad ya liked it! Best to you and all the PG Music folks.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the listen and the very nice comments. It was a quick "throw together" that, I think, came out pretty good. Pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks again.

Alan,

This is really good! A magnificent write. Has an "authentic" sound - both melody and lyric - like it came of an early Sinatra record.

Your vocal is super. The band is solid. Excellent mix.

This is excellent through and through. Really enjoyed it.

hello Floyd,

Thank you ... you are much too kind, my friend! Several good fits for this, in my mind ... as you said, Sinatra; Vic Damone, Steve Tyrell (my number thought), Don Cherry, Tony Bennett, Ronnie Dove and - and dare I say - Eddie Fischer. It really was a quick write -- three and a half hours from inception to posting. I considered a couple more vocals but was tired, so went with this first cut. Not sure what happened to the voice on the first two lines. My original isn't like that but each time I uploaded it, they sound a bit "washed out". Oh well - the mysteries of Cyber World!

Thank you again for all the kind words ... very much appreciated comments. best you and yours,

Alan

Hello, Alan

Very very pleasant jazz music!
Your vocal is truly nice.
Melody is also very nice!
"The lyric came to me pretty quickly - about 45 minutes total." Amazing!
I also can't sleep at night sometimes.
There are times when I think of melodies in my head, but I don't rise up from the bed to do the actual work.
Your passion for music is wonderful.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Great mix, does have an authentic sound to my ear

very strong vocal

a very appealing song, a time when you could converse

with your lady friend and not be drowned out by the band

makes me thirsty for a cocktail or even a beer in a tall cold glass

classy with nice arrangement and chord choices

enjoyed the listen

music is a great thing to have when you need a distraction,

hope everyone is doing better

Kenny

Hi Shigeki!

You are very kind with your compliments. You put a smile on my face. And yes, the lyric just came to me, almost from thin air. Thank you so much!

Thanks again. Much appreciated.

Sorry to hear that hard times are visiting you. Although I am glad that you find such comfort in making songs. I always enjoyed yours; this one is no exception. I especially love the chorus for this one.

Keep up the awesome work.

Very nice authentic feel, really pleasant to listen to. So classical and beautiful lyrics of the era. Your voice and piano really work perfectly together smile And the fiddle solo is nice, did it come just like that, by pressing the play?

Thinking about y'all....

Hey, I often have trouble sleeping but the song truck (as Tommyad says) doesn't backup and unload a good one on me smile

You really shine with this groove. Nice write, vocal and band. And, man, did that gypsy feel fiddle ever work. Love the way your vocal seems to bounce off that piano groove.

Kudos and we much enjoyed it!

Hi Ember,

Such a pleasure to hear from you, as always. Thanks so much for the well-wishes. We'll get through the hard times as we always do. But your concern is appreciated very much.

nd thank you for the very kind comments on the song! Delighted to know you enjoy out work. And yeazh, that chorus is my favorite part of the song, too! After I write the first verse, that chorus just fell into my lap.

Again, many thanks. We appreciate you PG Music folks very much.
