The Hiding Place

This time I decided to go back to 'normal' and showcase something more difficult, an artistic and moody song. It may require several listenings to get really into it. I thought this would have been difficult to sing, but Miira did again wonderful job and in very short time.

Real Drums: PraiseWorshipSlow

Realtracks:
Viola #2336
Acoustic guitar picking #1003
Acoustic guitar solo #1649
Cello #1856
Electric bass #1592
Electric guitar #1598, #1637
Electric piano #910
Harp #2820

MIDI: strings from HRPORK.STY, played through VSTs Vocalise 2 and Ethera

Loops from BIAB: Insects gentle, rain with distant thunder
Other sound effects: bees, walking on the snow

Vocals: Miira

Mixed in Adobe Audition 2017

Lyrics:

The lake was bright and tranquil
when the summer came
among the vivid dragonflies
we made love without a shame.
Sunsets on the secret porch
crickets singing through the nights
mosquitoes on your naked skin
affection healed their bites.

Only you I've ever brought
to this hiding place
no-one ever knew about
our sweet embrace.
Now my memories are purged
even you can't find a trace
I'm the keeper of the embers
at the hiding place.

You had to leave the cabin
when the autumn came
you fell into your backup arms
to cease the dreamy game.
Alone to shun the coming ghosts
of the prison of my past
no safety net to save my soul
just a veil to cast.

Only you...

Icicles on gutters
when the winter came
frozen windows hid the view
once there caught a flame.
I chose calmness over flare
kept the fire out of sight
decades buried burning thoughts
concealed my appetite.

Only you...

A glimpse of an oil lamp
the worn face of a tramp
footprints on a trail
a hidden chapter starts a new tale.

Hello, Janne

Very beautiful song with unique chord progression!
The progression at the following lyrics starting from C major is especially wonderful.
"Sunsets on the secret porch
crickets singing through the nights
mosquitoes on your naked skin
affection healed their bites."
Mira's vocal is also very pleasant.
It sounds like a song based on a traditional folk of Finland we do not know.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

This song reminds me of walking in to a fantasy realm. It has such an enchanting sounds, and I feel the loops you used really helped to add to this effect.

Thanks for sharing.

Very captivating. Has an early seventies folk sound.
The intro reminded me of falling leaves.
Great production and great vocals.

Great job on this, jannesan! I found both the song as a whole and it's lyrics to be beautifully mesmerizing. It pulls you in right away - and I found it to be equally as interesting a piece as it is delicate and pretty.

Fantastic work - thanks so much for sharing smile

Hi Janne,

Well, John beat me to the punch with the ethereal comment. It's obvious you out a lot of work and time into this production. You did an excellent job! And your vocalist is very, very good! Loved it!

Thanks Shigeki, your comments are always so insightful smile I'm glad you mentioned the chord progression, I was trying to avoid melody and structure of another song playing on my mind, so I managed to create the part you mentioned, I'm also happy about it. Probably not very Finnish type of folk, but who knows what are my influences here smile

Thanks Rob for your nice comment smile Interesting observation about seventies folk, I'm satisfied that I have captured that kind of sound.

Great music Jannesan, excellent background and mixing.

To Mira: great vocal as usual. As long as I heard to your voice it remember me a lot Dee Dee Jackson in some song like "Stop the clock" or "Galaxy of love"
