The Paradox Of You It's too hot to go outside in Sydney this afternoon so I thought I'd have a go at writing some music to Joanne's lyric. Like the other versions I did not listen before doing my version. I sang and played some guitar at the end. Thanks to Joanne for providing the lyrics and the forum members whose idea this was. Here is the link to the topic. http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=449070&nt=4&page=1The Band: RealTracks in song: ~2474:Bass, Acoustic, Held Ev 085 RealTracks in style: 2693:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm ModernPop16thsMike Ev16 075 RealTracks in style: 2692:Organ, Rhythm ModernPopSlowMike Ev 075 RealDrums in style: NashvilleBrushesBalladPushEv16: a: Sidestick, Brushes b: Brushes The very fine lyrics are listed elsewhere but here they are again for completeness. The Paradox of YouListening to the pouring rain I know the sun will come Light from dark dry from wet When wintertime is done I see myself as the earth And you the vast blue sky Sometimes I keep you grounded And you just let me fly Chorus I love it when we talk I love the silence too I love the yin and yang of life The paradox of you You are my harmony the balance that I find through the windows of my days In corners of my mind Sometimes you are the roots growing in the night Sometimes I am the leaves bathing in your light Chorus I love it when we talk I love the silence too I love the yin and yang of life The paradox of you Bridge In and out, hot and cold Fear and courage, young and old Good and bad, salty sweet Up and down, messy neat Chorus I love it when we talk I love the silence too I love the yin and yang of life The paradox of you

Hey Peter. That is fantastic. I love how you have used the spoken word and then the contrast of the full chorus with harmonies etc. Suits the lyrics perfectly. Great guitar solo at the end. Good job!

Another really good rendition. It seems there are many clever people with great ideas. Joanne's words are so well constructed they can be used in many ways. Well done.

Well that was a treat! What an awesome atmosphere for the song. I agree with the spoken word/sung contrast. So effective! The chorus is very Floyd-ish to me. I like that I also appreciated the tension you created in the bridge. Great take on the lyrics and really nice production.

Peter,
This is excellent!
GREAT use of this lyric - in every aspect. The spoken verse had a "Rod McKuen feel". The chorus worked well after that. The bridge was really well done - the changes there were unexpected and super! Nice outro..
Excellent in every way.

Different and welcome approach to the lyrics. Kind of Mark Knopfler sound in your voice, both spoken and sung... or did I say that already in my 'The Hard Way' comment . The piano really lifts this to the heights. I would have put down the organ a little. Lovely peaceful guitar at the end. Janne

Let me join the chorus and say, this is indeed excellent!
Your take on Joanne's lyrics is very creative and superbly effective. I really enjoyed listening to the spoken sections. They provided a great contrast.
Definitely a work to be proud of!

Love the contrast between the spoken word and the vocal.
Great set of lyrics from Joanne.
Love the tasty, emotive guitar work too. Over too soon for my tastes, you could have extended that a bit.
Excellent track, well done!!

floyd What he said! We get the McKeuen feel. Used to read a lot of him back in the day - well Bud did -- Janice was a child But then the Knopler feel is there also. The lyric, upon refection, is perfect for the spoken verse and set up the chorus really well. We agree with Dave that more of the guitar work would've been great. The spoken word, the lead singing and the harmony all really nails the entire feel of the song and well expresses the lyric. Excellent Kudos!!!!!! J&B

Peter, Very laid back... on the surface: we get to feel the tension in the lyrics through understatement. I love the simple arrangement. An original and very enjoyable take on the song!

Very good use of sprechstimme to build the drama.

The drama on this one is insane in a good way (tactfully done; gives it a good flow). You guys have been doing such a great job of putting your own twists on Joanne's lyrics. I also really enjoyed the spoken word component of this version! Great job.

Interesting tune Peter! You did some really cool music here!! Just listened to Janne.....amazing how different the song is with different melodies. Yours is more mysterious (I hear some Dire Straights here) and his is more ethereal. Nice job!! Take care. Greg

This is a realy cool rendition of this song. Very nice job balancing the spoken word with the singing. The harmonies are very nice in the chorus. I wish there was more guitar solo at the end. That was a very nice touch. Overall a superb production.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
