I found that if I nudged the Mandolin tracks forward or back in a few spots it gave a looser more live feel to the overall sound. Big thanks to all that listen and comment, Tom

Atlanta

I come from a long line of men with too much pride

I used to stand up tall and fight but now I’m not that guy

She’s got first hand knowledge bout the way I used to be

It’s not her problem it’s my legacy

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She’ll understand why I left that day

It was cold and it wasn't cool

To act like such crazy fool

And leave her all alone and afraid

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She won’t feel that way

It’s almost like it happened to someone just like me

wonder if it ever will be what it used to be

I am just a poor soul trying to find his way back home

And I can’t fight those memories anymore

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She’ll understand why I left that day

It was cold and it wasn't cool

To act like such crazy fool

And leave her all alone and afraid

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She won’t feel that way

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She’ll understand why I left that day

It was cold and it wasn't cool

To act like such crazy fool

And leave her all alone and afraid

Maybe if I ever get back to Atlanta

She won’t feel that way

Tom,

This is one of my favorites from you...

I love the story and way you make it feel so personal. Production is great and I really like how you use the higher register of your voice on the chorus - very cool stuff!

Herb said it simply, and said it right!! LOVE THIS!!! Your lyrics are so natural. It is so hard to write in an original way with all of the millions of songs that have been written. But, you make it sound effortless Tom. This is another gem!! Take care. Greg

Hi Tom,

I always thought that I favoured your blues side best, but this just blew me away.

What do you call this stuff? A country power ballad maybe?

Whatever, I loved the whole thing.

Super backing, perfect pedal steel and your vocals just keep getting better and better.

A classic.

ROG.

Tom

Liked everything about this, the composition, the lyric, the vocal and the sound - all incredibly professional. You have a knack of coming up with wonderfully accessible music.

Steve, The real reason my drums are so loud is for years I used to sit behind my Steel on a riser right next to the loudest drummer I have ever heard resulting in 50 percent hearing loss in my right ear. Also my wife sits on that side most of the time contributing to this condition. Actually now it comes in handy when she yells at me. Keep on having fun, Tom

Tom, every time I see your name in the user showcase I get excited. I honestly can't find a weak link in anything you do on here. The lyrics, the melody, the phrasing, the overall feel, the production...and you have to be such a damn nice guy too! C'mon man! Be human, just once for us mortals.

I could listen to this song 1000 times and still want to hear it 1000 more. It's because it feels right to me. I love that in a song.

Wow - you nailed this, Tom! It is perfectly catchy, and just a well written song. The mix sounds extremely professional, and I wouldn't bat an eyelash if I heard this on the radio. The mandolin was an excellent attribute.

Great work, and thanks so much for sharing smile

Cheers,
Deryk

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
