Presumably it doesn't do absolutely nothing.

Presumably you get some form of error messages, alerts, other information?

Could you share any messages or warnings or alerts with us?

What steps did you take to install?
Was BiaB already installed on an existing computer which you you upgraded to Windows 10?
Did you upgrade Windows or did you get a new computer with windows 10 on it and then try to install BiaB?

As you can see, there is too much guess work. More information please.

Yes, more info will help.

I do not know if BIAB 2008 will run. One thing you could try after installing it is to use Windows Explorer to navigate to BBW.EXE and right click to set compatibility for Windows 7.

Hi,

Band-in-a-Box 2008 itself is compatible with Windows 10 (assuming your installation discs still work), but the Roland Virtual Soundcanvas softsynth that comes with it won't even install, so you'd have to use the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth for MIDI sounds (which would have a lot of latency, and rendering to WAV won't work.

I'd definitely recommend upgrading, the 2018 version will work much better.

Thanks

Again more info needed but I'll say your Tyros should still work fine as a sound module, put it in GM mode and set it up as the synth in Biab. I assume you understand the audio routing, if not ask.

If you don't want to use your Tyros that way then the old Roland VSC will not work with a 64 bit OS. It's the newer versions of Biab that includes the Coyote Wavetable synth that is based on your Windows on board sound but you're free to use whatever synth you want for your midi sounds. That's something else, Biab 2008 is all midi, you really need to have some Real Tracks/Drums.

Thanks all I will try again with installation disk or perhaps even use biab 2007 disk and see if that works or try upgrade as suggested.

In case it helps I was running BIAB 2008 until the end of last year. It ran fine on Windows 10. However I have upgraded to the 2018 version and the difference is amazing.

So, your 2008 version should run - it's not the upgrade to Windows 10 per se but more info would help - has someone suggested administrator mode?

Thanks all.

I tried using a 2007 disk mega pack and that installed ok so perhaps that 2008 disk is now faulty.

Will upgrade later to 2018.

when at my tyros I use an old w7 computer with a 21" monitor situated at the tyros music stand, my eyesight is not good for reading manuscripts (books) at that position, I was 81 years this week. Still play but more slowly.

I can recommend the update. I'd also recommend buying the ultrapak which has everything (just about except the extrapaks). I upgraded from 2008 and was so knocked out by the RealTracks that I upgraded to the biggest pack because you never know what might come in useful. Not sure what you play and my only gripe is that PG Music don't do style specific upgrades. To get all the folk/country/pop styles I want I have to pay for the jazz and other styles I will never use. But it must be the same for the jazz players who don't want the styles I do.

Like you (I'm nearly 70) I'm slowing down but BIAB plays the backing I can't manage on my own - and I even let it play solos which I used to overdub myself.

Hi Devon Player

Nice to see you on here we already know each other from the YKK forum so I hope you don’t mind me jumping in here, with a few thoughts.

You don’t say exactly how you are connected to your Yamaha Tyros , by midi, Audio, both, or not at all and play over Biab via a mixer???

I have just dedicated a new W10 pc to my Yamaha CVP405 Clavinova works like a dream
Here is my brief description of how I connect.

First the CVP is connected via midi over usb lead to my PC, this allows BIAB to see the CVP as my midi synth and a midi input device. As set in my midi and audio settings on BIAB.
With the aid of a pat file converted from a cakewalk ins file (instrument definition) I can access all the CVP’s 884 Midi voices and 19 Drum sets. In BIAB. Select higher bank option .

To make use of the many excellent Realtracks styles an Real drums. I feed the audio output of the PC to the line input of CVP.
This allows me to hear the Real tracks etc. audio from the CVP sound system and speakers, and play live over the top ( with careful adjustment of the PC sound out and the line in trim pot on the Yamaha )
I can now sing over the top with vocal harmony if required by sending the root chords from the BIAB chord sheet over the midi connection using the set midi chords to output option in BIAB ( options /preferences/output channel ).
The whole lot can be recorded on the Yamaha CVP built in Audio recorder as a wav file.
Just my way hope it helps some one wanting to use a Yamaha keyboard if only as a midi Synth.
Best Regards
Mike.

You can't use the Roland VSC that shipped with BIAB 2008 on 64-bit Windows (don't even try it). However, for $40 you can purchase the Coyote Forte SCi synth from PGMusic and it will work fine with BIAB and allow direct rendering to WAV. There are other options as well.

But yes, upgrading to 2018 will be a better solution and also bring you into the world of RealTracks (a whole bunch of them).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
