So, over the years using BB I have been tempted to record a few cover songs that have caught my fancy. I know there's a rule.... no covers unless you buy the license. And I don't plan to spend money on a license.

Folks are posting links to covers here on the "Have you heard BB on YouTube" forum..... however, Youtube also, believe it or not, has a "don't post things you don't own because..... no.... we don't have any special treatment or copyright exemptions"...... so.... I'm wondering how is this allowed both there and here?

I already know the answer..... as a songwriter..... I understand the copyright laws.....

So, back to my train of thought.... I have 2 or 3 songs that are really good..... but they're covers..... so I hesitate to put them online and provide links to them. SO I guess, for now, you'll just have to take my word for it.... they are really GOOD.

All I can do for right now is tell you the titles....

Who Will Stop The Rain... the old Creedence tune
All The Young Dudes.... the old Mott The Hoople tune written by David Bowie... this one is freaking amazing!!!
Southern Nights... the Glen Campbell tune. Also really good complete with the riffs from the original.

That's all for now..... maybe I'll figure out a way so folks here can listen to these tunes....

If Youtube didn't allow covers it would have like 23 videos! Also, we wouldn't have Justin Bieber!

You can def post covers on Youtube and one of two things will happen, 1) they will automatically be monetized for the owners of the song you are covering with none of that for you or 2) Youtube will take the song down.

Ever since I saw the "Heard it on Youtube" forum I have just assumed it was intended to be a sly way of bending the rules regarding covers. No covers in the showcase but links to covers on Youtube means PGM has no liability.

Personally, I'd like to hear your CCR cover!

“The songs must be originals, no copyrighted or "cover" songs. You must have all of the rights to the songs.”

I’ve always interpreted the above forum rule as meaning no covers period. If you have a license to a song you don’t “have all the rights.”

I have licenses for all the covers we included on a CD we released in 2003. I would love to add an RT to some of them for posting as they include some world class musicians. But even though the rule is occasionally violated it seems clear unless I’m missing something.

I got curious and found this:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4054502/windows-10-movie-maker-is-no-longer-available-for-download

Scroll down:
"You may want to consider upgrading to Windows 10. The latest version of the Photos app includes the ability to create and edit videos with music, text, motion, filters, and 3D effects. Visit Microsoft Store for more video creation and editing apps."

You may have the video ability under a different app name....unless you were just being facetious. smile

Carry on....

Windows 10 usually includes a link in the main menu for the Windows store. From there you can DL all kinds of free (or paid) apps that run on Windows. There are several video editors available.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
