https://soundcloud.com/scott-schwarz-740132899/angel-1

I wrote this as a mid-sixties power-pop rock song. Using the HROCKLA style gave me the sound I wanted, and I added an acoustic guitar and an organ. I'm not quite happy with the mix yet.

Real Tracks:
RealBass 995 Bass, Electric, HardRockLA Ev 120
RealDrums-RockHardLA^7-BllRide,CrshRde
RealGuitar 999 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLAFuzzyA
RealStrings 996 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm HardRockLACrisp
RT690 Organ, B3, Background Pop Ev 165
RT1683 Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm PopPromise Ev16 100

Lyrics

I heard the voice of an angel calling
Lifting my heart when my spirit was falling
How could someone be so celestial
Spinning through my mind like a mirrored carousel

How do you kiss an angel
Float on her wings
I’ll never tell
Her of my visions
I’d burn in hell
How do you kiss an angel

I heard the voice of an angel beside me
Stealing my smile and the secrets inside me
How could someone be so celestial
Spinning through my mind like a mirrored carousel

How do you kiss an angel
Float on her wings
I’ll never tell
Her of my visions
I’d burn in hell
How do you kiss an angel

Living with this apparition
She’s got a face for memorization
Giving her my adoration
Only with my eyes

How do you kiss an angel
Float on her wings
I’ll never tell
Her of my visions
I’d burn in hell
How do you kiss an angel

I heard the voice of an angel singing

How do you kiss an angel...

Great work on this one smile Love the groove and the old school vibes here. I'm getting an 80's feel here, which is never a bad thing in my books. The production is solid too, and your vocals are really memorable.

Nice job - thanks for sharing!

Cheers,
Deryk

This is catchy and has the energy of power pop; you picked good RT`s for the big driving sound and your vocals/harmonies are excellent.
Enjoyed!

Well done!! Very good vibe. Excellent vocals. It seems to me that drums could come up a bit but I'm listening on a subpar system. Great job!! Take care. Greg

Thanks, Greg. I thought the drums were too loud, but I think it was the mix: It was a bit muddy. I remixed the song this morning, and it sounds less muddy.

Nice and powerful stuff indeed.

About the mix itself, I would try a slightly different bassdrum (kick), this one appears to cut down the volume for some reason. Did you by chance use a lot of compression?

It is a really good song and I enjoyed listening to it.

I will have to agree with some of the others, that the drums sounds a bit "buried" in the mix - as if the guy playing them is in another room. It could make the track even better if the drums were a bit louder and clearer.

But that said it is still a very nice track!

Thanks for the tip. I cut the compression, and tweaked the EQ of the drums.

I like this! A very cool late 80's / early 90s sound.

Good vocal and mix - a lot of energy.

Power Pop yeah!
Harmonies are ace.
Mind you I reckon the carousel line leads it into psych territory - maybe you should do a pysch arrangement as well.
Coooool song - very, very well done.

Straightforward pop, very catchy.

As rayc said, the harmonies - which make the song - are ace. smile

Didn't expect the maj7 ending!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Ezekiel's Storm:

Magnetic out of the gate—great sound. Yes, a mid sixties sound, but has an eighties vibe to me as well. Love those drums and great harmonies. This is an upbeat, foot-tapping, head-bobbing winner. Really nice touches on the production. Terrific job on this one—enjoyed every note from start to finish.

Regards,

Deej

It's funny that you mentioned the carousel line with the psych: I was going to experiment with panning the sound around at that section and add some vocal effect, but I got so frustrated trying to the mix to sound halfway decent that I scrapped that idea for the now. Thanks, Ray.
