Here's my take on something I made a while ago and always meant to share that maybe some of you will like - CLEMENTINE
Now, odds are you've heard this song before... but probably not quite like this! wink

As for the formalities: BBox Terry is on the drums, with Swainson gripping the bass and Gannon comping on guitar. Some RT horns added for background and soloists, with yours truly providing keys & strings - Enjoy! cool

Hi Icelander, It is a fine version, but you might wonder why you don't get many comments. I think it is because you are forgetting about the rules for this forum:

"The songs must be originals, no copyrighted or "cover" songs."

It can cause all kind of problems for PGMusic if we start to do "covers" here.

I know you can make great music of your own.. do that next time! smile

I'll have you know I've always minded the rules of contributions in here, certainly the ones regarding 'no covers in this forum' part. I even looked this one up on wiki, just to be sure I was right in my estimation, and they claim this is an american folk song that dates back at least a hundred years, which is well past the limits of copyrights - and those (much like when I've given classical pieces an overhaul) are fair game!

It doesn't have to be only my own work. So in no way do I think I've violated anything of any sort.

p.s. The song has hardly been up a few hours, btw, let alone an entire day. This apparent 'lack' of feedback is... well, I definitely wasn't "wondering" just yet, I'll say that much wink

p.s.p.s. I see now that you came on board just this year...

A sweet latin-jazz variation, nicely re-harmonized and rhythmically reinterpreted. Enjoyed the listen.

Nice take on a classic, I like how you changed it rhymically and jazzed it up.

Really works well IMHO, nice work!

Eddie,

I agree with Dave above. This is definitely a "nice take on an old classic". As you predicted, I haven't heard it played like this before. Ever. You've got a great feel for this Latin-jazz genre! More please smile

All the best,
Noel

Public domain songs have always been fair game in the User Showcase. It's always cool to see how different people interpret the same song.

Nice work on this one smile A really clever re-imagining for sure. I'm almost getting some Bob James vibes on this one. The groove, and the way the RealTracks compliment one another here is perfect.

Great job, and thanks for sharing!

That is one of my favourite genres, so this is a massive compliment to me, thank you!
And who knows, though I'd hate to be the one who keeps repeating himself, I just might go and make some more... since you asked for it wink

Yes, that was rather the idea behind my unusually vague details in the "formalities", you see. I wanted people to hear it first, with as little preconceived notions attached beforehand as I could.
Thanks for the positive feedback cool

I think I speak for at least 99% of all artists when I say we never believe we've reached "perfect" (I certainly don't), but I do appreciate the sentiment.

Totally agree John, it is public domain and in fact I think ANYTHING composed before 1923 is ok ?

If in doubt, my guideline is pretty much this (from wiki): "In most countries the term of protection of copyright lasts until January first, 70 years after the death of the latest living author."

And this song here certainly fell a long way past that!

p.s. And yes, I know it can be a bit more complex (before any of you self-proclaimed "specialists" barge in here to note just that), and even different regions can have different definitions, such as with how I can as a european use the Happy Birthday song royalty free (as of 2017) whereas an american might not.

But anyway, this one is safe and that's all I care about - End of story? smile

That was fun! smile

I think it's cool that solos - which bear no resemblance to the melody - are automagically linked to the melody because we've been primed to hear it that way.

I hadn't realized that the Clementine is the result of grafting, and so a sterile fruit. Quite unlike the result of what you've done here. wink

Clever rearrangement of traditional songs are always fun.

And, man, did you every take this one to a new place.

We love the arrangement and it sounds outstanding on our monitors. Kudos on the mix.

And we concur with the above comments regarding the Latin-jazz format...More!

Well done.

Eddie,

A very nice version of Clementines.
I agree with Tangmo.
A sweet latin-jazz variation, nicely re-harmonized and rhythmically reinterpreted.
As John says, public domain songs have always been fair game in the User Showcase.
And at the same time it is always very difficult to finish it up a wonderful work beyond the original.
But I think you have accomplished that difficult task.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
