Bumping for Jim’s answer about the CPU. It would really help to confirm a theory. And watch for the next patch, and report back.

Hi Blake!
Thanks for your post and information.
Here's the info on my computer...
Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook
Processor: AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 1.90Ghz
RAM: 6 GB
Hope that is helpful. BTW, I did install the 607 update, but that particular one didn't have any affect on this problem.
Thanks to all!

Hi Matt,
As soon as a new patch is released, I'll update and see how it goes. Much appreciation for your help on this, as I also appreciate the others who have contributed. If nothing else, this has been an interesting problem. I think!

You’re welcome of course, Jim. You aren’t the only one with this. A few of the testers have it too. That’s why comparing the equipment has become important. Thanks.
One more thing if you would: download the free Geekbench 4 and report your single core score.

Jim, that score is below the minimum PG Music has said is needed. While I don’t think there is an exact number, 1500 sticks in my mind.
But try the new patch when it is released.

Matt, if you remember, I mentioned one time that I thought my computer may be at least part of the problem.
It's getting old. Had this for about 5 years or so. But buying a new one isn't in the cards right now. If the problem IS my computer, however, that would be good for others to know as well. Can't expect a Commodore 64 to run BIAB 64! lol
It's interesting that you mentioned minimum requirements for the PC. I remember reading some of those, like a Pentium 4, etc., but don't recall anything about a benchmark needed to run the software. I'll have to try to find that and check it further.
Thanks!
Jim

All this talk of computer specs and so on may be irrelevant. It could merely be a particular bug which is affecting quite a few users’ systems. Don’t forget that the move to 64-bit was bound to have a few issues. All these various song files which are causing problems on certain computers are operating fine if you use the 32-bit version of BIAB 2019. So if it runs in 32-bit OK then it should also work in 64-bit. I am sure a fix will be available soon.

All this talk of computer specs and so on may be irrelevant. ... Yes, I didn't mean to suggest that it is the cause of the current problem. You are correct, this is being worked on. I do think that at some point, the computer will not be up to the task. That's separate from this issue.

Matt,
I received the patch late last night from Blake and installed it this morning. I'll just copy and paste what I told him just a few minutes ago:
I loaded the new 608 patch this morning and it did indeed take care of the distortion and tempo issues in the count-in. Thank you!
A few things still nag, however, that were mentioned in the forum posts and also to Kent...
1: BIAB still will not recognize the ASIO driver for the Steinberg UR22 interface. Even though it is an updated driver and works fine on all other music apps, it won't work under "ASIO" in BIAB. I have to choose MME instead. Not a big problem, as long as I can hear the music, but it's something Kent seemed to feel was important, so I'm passing it along.
2: There is still the annoying problem of the playback stopping for a second when the mixer is engaged, or whenever any part of the mixer is clicked on. I don't think it actually causes any problem with the music, but if you are trying to change levels on instruments while listening, it is a problem.
About Funkycornwall's question:
Concerning my computer's capabilities... my computer is well within PG Music's stated system requirements for BIAB 2019. I couldn't find a reference to that number of 1500 that you mentioned earlier, Matt. I realize that it will need to be replaced sometime soon, but the software should work fine on a machine with the stated requirements.
But that's all for another forum chat. I'm just glad that bbupdate608 apparently did the trick for the distortion and tempo issues on the count-in. The rest is gravy, as they say!
Very much appreciate all of your help in this... as well as Jim, Noel, Funkycornwall, Videotrack/Trev, and any others I may have missed. You are the reason that this forum is so valuable. Thanks again.
Jim

Jim, that's great. Yes, another person with the same problem is also back in action.
About the Geekbench score, you're right, you won't find a hard number. I mentioned 1500 because of some conversations with the developers but that is NOT anything official. I imagine with all the variables in a computer that even this one score is not absolute for two different computers each of which might score 1500. I can tell you the subject of the discussion at the time included processors like the Atom processor. Also at that time I was still running on a Core 2 Duo (which still worked with BIAB OK).

Yes, Matt, I have to admit to a bit of computer envy when I read you have an i7 with 16 Gigs. Bet you can run anything on that!
I see a lot of gamer computers that look like they would be perfect, but I prefer the laptop because it's relatively quiet and I can easily mask what fan noise it does make.
Anyway, though, I guess our good friends at PG Music have come through again and this thread has served its purpose.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, Happy Hanukah to our Jewish friends, and Seasons Greetings to all the rest!

Thanks Jim. By the way, that much RAM is not needed for BIAB. The CPU and storage transfer speed are much more important.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
