I've had his very old (but still extremely well performed) midi file of this traditional that has been floating around the interweb for decades, and I've been meaning to "spice" it up with modern day quality sound sources for years, but only now got around to actually do it. I'm hoping that my use of PG's own sfz sounds (bass, piano & guitar) is suffice for this submission to pass in here - Enjoy!

AULD LANG SYNE

p.s. I must stress: I did NOT play or even arrange a single note in this composition! All I did was select new sound sources for each instrument and adjust their levels in a DAW before exporting to audio. The goal was simply to try and see if something as old as midi file from the 90's could still be made to sound convincing. Promoting PG's excellent sounds in the process is then just a happy byproduct wink

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! cool

Edit: Link with better version updated

Very nice! I like the way you reached back to retrieve this file and revive it. Excellent mix and arrangement of the supporting tracks.

That's good, thanks, and I'd like to think it's easy on the ear even for the stoutest jazz haters, heh
I've always liked this version, but there are only so many days of the year to share it, you know wink

This really shows off what a good arrangement, excellent mixing skills and what a good MIDI sound source sounds like.

This should be used as a MIDI demo for PGMusic.

Well, coming from our Mr. Midi himself, that's quite a vote of confidence right there, and precisely the point I was trying to make by placing this in here, the "Showcase" section, rather than somewhere else.
So you have many thanks for seeing the submission as intended cool

Really sounds great! I agree with Mario, this could/should be used as a demo of what midi can do with PG Music.

Love it!

Oddly as I listened to the intro and looked at the picture I thought that the stereo image & frequency range was pretty much as displayed in the fire works.
When "the band" kicked in so did the sonic variety & wider stereo image.
The high horns with the sharp stops stretched the credibility of the sounds a little,(even felt like a little control wheeling in spots though that's unlikely), but the rest of the midi really was good.

Cheers

Right.. erh well, I don't know what you were consuming for those New Years Eve festivities to get to such an intricate sensory discovery, but I would certainly like to try some of that grin

Janice is quite the whistler and she's had at this
song all through New Year's Eve...mostly unaware
she was doing it smile

While her version is entertaining it has been
fun to switch to this full big band production.
And we both like the genre so that makes it even
more enjoyable.

Congrats on the cool way to revive it. Sounds
very nice and room filling.

Well, now I just really want to hear you do a recording where you merge those two into one, that sounds utterly brilliant! cool

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
