The song picker window has changed for 2019. I use this window all the time. I even have a foot pedal that activates it between songs to save on reaching for the laptop. The new window when opened now has fewer songs in the main window because there are two sub windows at the bottom. Is there a way to get rid of these two smaller windows....one a summary of the selected song and then other that is labeled "open special"? I want the old full page song picker look.

Plus.... and the MAIN thing.....once I finish a song and hit the song picker....it comes up with the current song highlighted. As it always has. But I now have to scroll through to the next song. Before if I played say... Against the Wind....finish that song and hit the song picker and i want to play say... Yesterday next.....all I had to do was hit the "Y" on my keyboard and the song picker would jump to the first song that begins with Y. And it would be a short scroll from there. Now it doesnt. I have to search or scroll. With 1200 songs in my song picker....that takes way too long. playing live this is unacceptable. And a deal breaker if I cant get the old picker functionality back.

I agree. In an effort to introduce an improvement, there have been several retrograde steps introduced.

No longer does column sort work, and there is no way to quickly navigate to a song title.

These could easily be resolved though, I'm sure.
Over to the wish list.

I'm getting frustrated over a similar problem. When I use the Song Picker, I want its cursor to stay where I left it, and not reset itself all the way back to the beginning of the song listings, which is what it's doing. I've looked all over the interface, trying to find some command or setting that will freeze the Picker so it won't move until I tell it to move.

When I read a book, I do not open the book to the first page every time I open it. I open a book to the page where I left off. I want to be able to do the same thing with the Song Picker, but so far I have not been able to figure out how to do this. Hey, the Style Picker does it -- sort of. It stays with the last style selected, although it might have moved a page away. But having to move just a page to start where I left off is a lot better than having to scroll through a few thousand song files. And yes, I have thousands of BiaB song files.

If this capability doesn't exist in BiaB, it's about high time it did.

That's reasonable, for sure. I'll add it to the list.

Seems I am doing that in the Style Picker as well trying out 100's of styles I have to try and find where I left off.

Brian, in earlier versions of BiaB (earlier than 2019, that is), there was a drop down where you could select "always" which would keep your place for you. In 2019, I think it's been changed, but it's still there. Hit the Action "button" then go to Set Dialog Options, then there's the second dropdown, which defaults to "sometimes," and which works as long as there are no conflicts, I guess. This can be changed to "always," so that the current style should be shown no matter what. I'm thinking that should get you there. It would be nice if we had such a selectional choice when it comes to the Song Picker.

My mouse has a scroll wheel (doesn't everyones?). Well it don't work in the Style Pointer or the Song Picker? Is it just me?

edit

Hold everything. Now it does! Maybe when a song is playing it doesn't work and when the song stops it does work. Who has time to figure this all out? cry

Thanks Michael, I remember I used to have it set that way. I have set it back to factory defaults a while back so perhaps that got reset. I have never used that action button I guess.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
